Modi unveils a new India–Australia–Canada tech partnership at the G20 Summit to boost innovation, clean energy, and resilient supply chains.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced a new trilateral partnership on technology and innovation between India, Australia and Canada. He made this announcement after meeting Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Canada’s Mark Carney on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit.

Modi Unveils ACITI Partnership

Modi shared the update on social media. “We are delighted to announce an Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership today,” he said. He added that the initiative will deepen cooperation among the three democracies in emerging technologies. It will also support clean energy, diversify supply chains, and encourage the mass use of AI.

Soon after, the three governments released a joint statement. They agreed to “strengthen their ambition in cooperation on critical and emerging technologies to complement existing bilateral initiatives”.

Focus on Green Energy and Supply Chain Resilience

Moreover, the MEA highlighted the key areas of the plan. “The initiative will draw on the natural strengths of the three countries and have an emphasis on green energy innovation and building resilient supply chains, including in critical minerals. It will deepen their respective ambition and strategic collaboration towards net zero and drive further diversification of supply chains towards a secure, sustainable, and resilient future. The Partnership will also examine the development and mass adoption of artificial intelligence to improve the lives of our citizens,” the statement said.

Officials from all three nations will meet in the first quarter of 2026 to advance the initiative.

Modi Meets Starmer and Guterres

Additionally, Modi met UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. He praised the growing momentum in India-UK relations. “It was wonderful meeting Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Johannesburg. This year has brought new energy to the India–UK partnership and we will keep driving it forward across many domains,” Modi posted on X.

He said he also had a “very productive” discussion with Guterres.
