Bangladesh outclassed Ireland by 217 runs in the second Test of the two-match series at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium. Hasan Murad (4/44 in 22.3 overs) and Taijul Islam (4/104 in 40 overs) wreaked havoc on the Ireland batters in the fourth innings and eventually broke through Ireland’s stubborn resistance on the fifth day. With this victory, Bangladesh secured a 2–0 series sweep.
Ireland had been set an improbable target of 509 runs, and Curtis Campher stood firm with an unbeaten 71 off 259 balls, occupying the crease for more than six hours.
Ireland’s Resistance on the Final Day
Ireland’s batsmen displayed immense composure on the fifth morning, frustrating Bangladesh’s bowlers with determined defense. The pair at the crease batted 59.3 overs, ensuring the chase lasted most of the final day. Ireland began at 176 for 6, and Campher displayed disciplined batting, while his partner Andy McBrine survived nearly an hour before being trapped lbw by Taijul for 21, marking Taijul’s 250th Test wicket.
Jordan Neill attacked Taijul with a series of boundaries using square cuts and cover drives and even hit a six off Murad, though he also survived a chance dropped by Litton. However, Mehidy Hasan Miraz eventually trapped Neill, bowling a delivery that spun past his forward prod and hit the stumps after the second new ball was taken. Campher reached his fifty with a straight six over long-on, further highlighting his resistance.
Bangladesh Seal Victory
By lunch, Campher and Hoey had taken Ireland to 263 for 8 with a partnership of over 50 runs in the second session, scoring at just two runs per over. Despite Campher’s resilience, Hasan Murad ended the game in just two deliveries, sealing a memorable win for Bangladesh.
