Mona Singh Says OTT Gives Actors the Freedom TV Never Allowed
Mona Singh says OTT gives actors more freedom because it allows bold stories and complex characters that TV cannot show.

Mona Singh has spent years moving from television to films and then to OTT platforms. She now stays away from traditional TV. In a new interview, she said OTT gives actors more freedom.

Censorship Limits TV, Says Mona

While speaking to Bombay Times, Mona said online platforms offer space for stories that TV cannot handle. She explained, “The kind of shows we watch online would never be shown on TV as there’s too much censorship and too many restrictions there. As an actor, you wouldn’t get the chance to portray such complex characters there. I’m happy people have embraced OTT. It’s a great phase for actors, writers and creators — there are so many stories to tell, so much more to do.”

She added that OTT encourages experimentation. It also allows actors to explore deeper emotions and tougher roles.

Her Journey From TV to OTT

Mona started her career in 2003 with the hit show Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin. She acted in daily soaps, hosted reality shows, and appeared in variety shows. Then she slowly moved to films and OTT dramas.

Reflecting on her growth, she said, “From Jassi to playing a cop (in the web show Mistry), starring in Made in Heaven season 2 and The Ba*ds of Bollywood, it has been quite a journey. I didn’t know anyone when I came to Mumbai, so everything that happened feels like a bonus. I’ve always liked to challenge myself as an actor and I feel blessed that I’m getting such brilliant opportunities on OTT now.”**

Recent and Upcoming Work

Mona recently acted in The Ba**ds of Bollywood, Aryan Khan’s Netflix series. It released earlier this year.

She will next appear in Border 2. The film stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. It will release on January 25 during the Republic Day weekend.
