Trump Jr Says US Could Walk Away From Supporting Ukraine
Donald Trump Jr said the US might pull back from Ukraine, while accusing Kyiv’s elites of fleeing the conflict.

Donald Trump Jr said US President Donald Trump may walk away from supporting Ukraine’s war effort against Russia. He made this claim at a West Asia conference on Sunday. He launched a long attack on Ukraine, and he argued that the country’s “corrupt” wealthy class escaped abroad while leaving “what they believed to be the peasant class” to fight the war.

Although Trump Jr holds no official role in the White House, he remains an important figure in the Maga movement. His remarks came as Trump’s negotiating team continued pressuring Kyiv to consider giving up some territory.

He blames Zelenskyy for prolonging the war

Trump Jr said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had extended the conflict. He suggested that Zelenskyy kept the war alive for political benefit. According to him, Trump also believed he would never win an election if the war ended, making the conflict politically important.

He criticised Zelenskyy’s global image and said the left treated him like a “borderline deity”. However, he argued that Ukraine remained “far more corrupt than Russia”.

Trump Jr attacks the EU and its sanctions plan

Trump Jr then shifted his attention to Europe. He criticised the EU’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and said European sanctions had failed. He argued that the sanctions only pushed up oil prices, which helped Russia earn more money to fund the war.

On Europe’s strategy, he said, “We are going to wait for Russia to go bankrupt – that is not a plan”. He added that during his 2022 campaign, only three voters told him the Ukraine war was a top concern.

He highlights other threats to the US

Trump Jr also warned about other dangers. He said Venezuelan boats bringing fentanyl posed “far more a clear and present danger than anything that is going on in Ukraine or Russia”. He argued that Americans cared more about domestic risks than distant wars.

He repeats claims of Ukrainian corruption

Furthermore, Trump Jr repeated corruption allegations against wealthy Ukrainians. Without evidence, he claimed that during a visit to Monaco this summer, he saw that half of the luxury cars — including Bugattis and Ferraris — had Ukrainian number plates.

“Do you think that was earned in Ukraine?” he asked.

He added, “We hear all the rumours about what is going on when we see every licence plate in Monaco is Ukrainian […] the rich fled, and they left what they believed to be the peasant class to fight these wars. There was no incentive to stop because as long as the money train was coming and they were stealing, no one was auditing anything, so there was no reason to come to peace."

He says Trump may walk away because he is unpredictable

When asked if his father, who campaigned on bringing peace to Ukraine, might simply walk away from the conflict, Trump Jr said “maybe he would”. He described Trump as one of the most unpredictable people in politics.
