Israel Raises Alarm Over Jewish Safety After Sydney Terror Attack
Israel warned of a clear pattern of antisemitic violence after the deadly Bondi Beach attack, as diplomats moved swiftly to protect Jewish communities in Australia.

After the deadly attack at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, Israel has raised serious concerns about growing threats to the Jewish community. Oren Marmorstein, spokesperson for Israel’s Foreign Ministry, spoke to CNN-News18 and warned of targeted violence.

“Jews are being targeted,” Marmorstein said. He added that the attacks show a clear and disturbing pattern.

Warnings Were Issued Earlier

Marmorstein acknowledged that authorities had warned Australia about possible threats. However, he pointed out that calls for a global intifada were made openly on Australian soil. At the same time, large public gatherings continued despite the risks. As a result, Jewish communities remained exposed.

Diplomacy Steps Up After the Attack

Following the incident, diplomats moved quickly. On Sunday, the Australian and Israeli foreign ministers spoke to each other. They discussed the situation and reviewed steps to protect Jewish communities across Australia.

Meanwhile, Australia continues to mourn the victims of the antisemitic attack. Authorities are now examining whether stronger preventive measures could have stopped the violence.

Israel–India Ties Highlighted

During the interview, Marmorstein also spoke about Israel’s close relationship with India. He stressed the strength of the bond, saying, “PM Modi is the closest friend of Israel.”

What Happened at Bondi Beach

An annual Jewish community event, “Chanukah by the Sea,” was taking place at Archer Park near Bondi Beach. Hundreds of families gathered to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah, an important Jewish festival of lights.

Shortly before 6:47 pm local time, two gunmen arrived at the scene. The attackers, a father and son identified as Sajid Akram and Naveed Akram, parked their vehicle nearby. Soon after, they opened fire with high-powered rifles from an elevated footbridge overlooking the park.

Bystander Acts Bravely

As panic spread, people ran for safety. At that moment, a bystander named Ahmed al Ahmed stepped in. He confronted one of the attackers and tackled him. He then disarmed the gunman and forced him to retreat. As a result, his actions saved many lives.

Police Neutralise the Attackers

Soon after, emergency services reached the area. Police confronted the attackers on the footbridge.

During the exchange, police shot and killed Sajid Akram. They also shot Naveed Akram, leaving him critically injured. Officers then arrested him.

IED Discovery Confirms Terror Plot

After securing the scene, police searched the attackers’ vehicle. They later found an Improvised Explosive Device inside the car.

This discovery confirmed the planned and premeditated nature of the antisemitic terror attack. At least 16 people lost their lives, making it one of the deadliest attacks on the Jewish community in Australia.
