Russian Strikes Kill Civilians in Kyiv, Injure Several
Russian strikes hit Kyiv and other cities, killing at least two people, as Ukraine issued nationwide missile alerts and tensions rose over a proposed post-war peace plan.

Russian forces launched fresh strikes on Kyiv and its surrounding areas early Friday. As a result, fires broke out and several residential buildings suffered damage. At least two people lost their lives, while several others sustained injuries.

Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the casualties in a Telegram post.

“Two dead in the capital. Five people were wounded. Three of them were treated on the spot by medics. Two were hospitalised,” he said.

Officials Urge Residents to Stay Alert

Meanwhile, Kyiv region governor Mykola Kalashnyk urged residents to remain inside shelters. He advised people to wait until air raid sirens were lifted.

Emergency teams moved quickly to the affected areas. Firefighters worked to bring the flames under control.

Ukraine Issues Nationwide Missile Warning

Earlier, late Thursday, Ukraine’s air force issued a nationwide alert. It warned that “all of Ukraine is under a missile threat”. In addition, the air force confirmed that Russian bombers were airborne. This development raised fears of a large-scale attack.

Western City of Lviv Also Hit

At the same time, Russian strikes reached western Ukraine. In Lviv, officials reported damage to vital facilities. Mayor Andriy Sadovy said the attack hit “critical infrastructure”.

“All relevant services are working on the site, the fire is being extinguished,” he said.

US Embassy Had Flagged Risk of Attack

Notably, the latest barrage followed a warning from the US Embassy in Kyiv. On Thursday, the embassy said a “potentially significant air attack” could occur within the next several days.

Later, President Volodymyr Zelensky echoed the warning during his evening address and urged people to stay cautious.

Moscow Slams Peacekeeper Proposal

Hours before the strikes, Moscow criticised a proposed post-war plan that includes deploying European peacekeepers in Ukraine. Russia rejected the idea and branded Kyiv and its allies an “axis of war”.

Meanwhile, European leaders and US envoys stepped up diplomatic efforts. They continued talks aimed at ending the conflict, which has lasted nearly four years.

Peace Plan Near Completion but Details Missing

According to the latest proposal, Ukraine would receive post-war security guarantees. These include a US-led monitoring mechanism and a multinational European force to deploy once fighting stops.

On Thursday, Zelensky said an agreement was “essentially ready for finalisation at the highest level with the President of the United States”. He made the statement after talks in Paris this week.

However, key details remain unclear. Officials have not disclosed the size of the force or how it would operate on the ground.
