ED Action on I-PAC Sparks Protest by TMC MPs Near Shah’s Office
The ED–TMC clash escalated as Trinamool MPs protested outside Amit Shah’s office after raids on I-PAC offices triggered a political storm.

The confrontation between the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) intensified on Friday. The political dispute reached the office of Union home minister Amit Shah in Delhi.

This escalation came a day after West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee made a dramatic visit to locations linked to I-PAC during ED raids in Kolkata.

TMC MPs Hold Protest Outside Shah’s Office

Eight All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) MPs staged a dharna outside Amit Shah’s office on Friday morning. Police later detained them.

The MPs protested against ED raids conducted at the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) office in Kolkata a day earlier. They held placards and raised slogans against the Centre.

The MPs accused the BJP-led government of using central agencies to target opposition parties before elections.

Leaders Lead the Dharna

Senior TMC leaders led the protest. Those present included Mahua Moitra, Derek O'Brien, Satabdi Roy, Bapi Haldar, Saket Gokhale, Pratima Mondal, Kirti Azad, and Dr Sharmila Sarkar.

Visuals from the site showed MPs holding placards that read, "Bengal rejects Modi-Shah's dirty politics," as they highlighted what the party called political vendetta against the TMC in West Bengal.

ED Raids Trigger Political Storm

The face-off began on Thursday after the ED carried out raids at the residence of I-PAC chief Pratik Jain and the group’s office in Kolkata.

I-PAC provides political consultancy services to the TMC. It also manages the party’s IT and media operations.

During the searches, Mamata Banerjee “rushed” to the locations. She alleged that the ED was “looting” sensitive TMC documents.

Dramatic Scenes at Raid Locations

Videos of the incident quickly spread on social media. The visuals showed Mamata Banerjee avoiding media persons and holding documents she claimed to have taken back.

The ED later said the searches remained peaceful until the chief minister arrived with a large number of police personnel.

Mamata Attacks Centre and Amit Shah

Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP-led central government of political targeting. She described the ED searches as an act of “political vendetta”.

She also targeted Union home minister Amit Shah. Mamata called him “naughty” and accused him of misusing constitutional agencies to intimidate opposition parties.

“This is not law enforcement. Is this how the nastiest and naughty home minister functions, who cannot protect the country and is sending agencies to harass before elections?” she said after visiting Pratik Jain’s residence.

ED Cites Coal Smuggling Link

The ED defended its action. It said the raids were linked to individuals who generated proceeds from coal smuggling.

The agency maintained that the searches followed due process, even as the political battle between the Centre and the TMC continued to intensify.
