Police Seize Nearly 10 Tonnes of Explosives in Rajasthan, One Arrested
Police seized nearly 10 tonnes of ammonium nitrate from a farm in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district a day before Republic Day, raising serious security concerns.

Just one day before Republic Day celebrations, police in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district uncovered a large stock of explosives. The recovery was made from a farm in Harsaur village. One man was arrested in connection with the seizure on Sunday.

The operation has raised alarm because of the timing and the nature of the materials recovered.

Late-night raid leads to recovery

According to officials, the Rajasthan Police carried out the raid late on Saturday night. During the search, officers found 9,550 kilograms of ammonium nitrate. The chemical was stored in 187 sacks and hidden in a field in Harsaur village.

Nagaur Superintendent of Police Mridul Kachhawa said the recovery was made during a targeted operation, news agency PTI reported.

Ammonium nitrate linked to past blasts

The seizure is considered highly sensitive. Ammonium nitrate has been used in several major blast cases in the past. Officials pointed out that the chemical was also linked to an explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort in November 2025.

Because of this history, security agencies are treating the case with seriousness.

Accused arrested with criminal history

Police arrested Suleman Khan, a resident of Harsaur village, from the spot. Officials said he already has three criminal cases registered against him.

His background is now under closer scrutiny as investigators try to trace the source and intended use of the explosives.

Detonators and fuse wires also seized

Along with ammonium nitrate, police recovered a large quantity of explosive accessories. These included nine cartons of detonators. Officers also seized 12 cartons and 15 bundles of blue fuse wire, as well as 12 cartons and five bundles of red fuse wire.

The presence of these items suggests the explosives were ready for use.

Possible link to mining activities

During preliminary questioning, the accused allegedly told investigators that he was supplying explosives to people involved in mining work. Police said this included both legal and illegal mining operations.

Further interrogation is expected to reveal more details about the network involved.

Case registered, central agencies informed

A case has been filed under relevant sections of the Explosives Act. Police have also informed central agencies about the seizure. Officials said central agencies are likely to question Suleman Khan as part of a broader investigation to identify any wider security threat.
