Carlos Alcaraz reached the Australian Open semi-finals for the first time with a dominant straight-sets win over Alex de Minaur. The Spanish star crushed the home favourite 7-5, 6-2, 6-1 on Tuesday at Rod Laver Arena.
Alcaraz, the top seed in Melbourne, looked calm and ruthless as he ended De Minaur’s hopes in front of a packed Australian crowd.
Career Slam dream stays alive
Alcaraz is chasing a Career Grand Slam and moved one step closer with this victory. The 22-year-old is also hunting his seventh Grand Slam title.
He will now face Alexander Zverev, last year’s runner-up, in the semi-final. The winner will book a place in the final.
Tight start before Alcaraz takes control
The opening set stayed close early on. Both players broke serve twice as they tested each other from the baseline. However, Alcaraz found an extra gear late in the set and earned a crucial third break to seal it 7-5.
That moment shifted the match completely.
Alcaraz dominates the final two sets
Once ahead, Alcaraz never looked back. He tightened his serve, attacked early, and kept De Minaur under constant pressure.
He allowed only two break points across the next two sets, and De Minaur failed to convert either of them. Alcaraz raced through the second and third sets with ease.
He finished the match in style, firing an ace to close out a commanding win.
Historic milestone for the world number one
This victory sent Alcaraz into his 10th Grand Slam semi-final. He is now the second-youngest man, after Rafael Nadal, to reach double figures in major semi-final appearances.
He also became the third-youngest player in the Open Era to reach the semi-finals at all four Grand Slam tournaments.
Strong record against top opponents
Alcaraz continues to thrive on the biggest stages. He has now won 17 of his 25 Grand Slam matches against top-10 players.
Only Bjorn Borg and Pete Sampras have better records in this category.
De Minaur’s quarter-final struggles continue
For Alex de Minaur, the defeat extended a tough pattern. He has now lost all seven of his Grand Slam quarter-final matches.
Despite the home support, he struggled to match Alcaraz’s power and precision once the match slipped away.
