England held their nerve to beat Nepal by four runs in a last-ball thriller, despite a spirited chase that nearly pulled off a stunning upset.

England narrowly edged out Nepal by four runs in the 5th match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Nepal almost did the job, but in the pressure situation, experience came into play and Sam Curran did his job to perfection.

After deciding to bat first, England put 184/7 on the scoreboard in 20 overs. England lost three wickets in the powerplay, but after that Jacob Bethell and Harry Brook built an important partnership. Both scored blazing half-centuries. Another fiery knock by Will Jacks helped England cross the 180-run mark. Dipendra Singh Airee (2/23 in 3 overs) and Nandan Yadav (2/25 in 3 overs) were the most impactful bowlers for Nepal.

In reply, Nepal launched a counterattack from the first ball. Despite losing the early wickets of Aasif Sheikh and Kushal Bhurtel, Dipendra Singh Airee and Rohit Paudel built an important partnership and kept Nepal in the chase. When both got out in consecutive overs, Lokesh Bam took charge. He tried his best and took the match to the last ball. Nepal needed a six to win, but they managed only a single. England escaped the late scare and managed to win the match. However, Nepal showed its potential despite the loss and signaled that they can upset the big teams.

Nepal lost the match but won hearts. They played with full strength. Despite coming under pressure during the long chase, they launched a counterattack. England is an experienced team, and they know how to handle pressure situations. Nepal lacks that experience. Sam Curran kept his cool and bowled in the right areas, not allowing the batsmen to hit big shots. Experience came into play in the pressure situation. Lokesh Bam almost carried Nepal to the finish line against England’s mighty bowling attack. On the other hand, England won the match, but they need to work hard on their bowling in the middle overs.
