Australia crushed Ireland by 67 runs in the 14th match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Australia chose to bat first and scored 182/6 in 20 overs. Marcus Stoinis played a blazing knock, while Josh Inglis and Matt Renshaw made useful contributions. In reply, Australia bowled Ireland out for 115 with 19 balls to spare. With this win, Australia started their campaign in dominant style. Ireland slipped to fourth position in the group after two straight losses.
Australia post a strong total
Australia lost Travis Head in the second over as he got run out. Josh Inglis and Cameron Green added a quick 49 runs for the second wicket. Mark Adair dismissed Green on the last ball of the fifth over. Australia lost a few wickets in the next overs but maintained a healthy run rate.
Marcus Stoinis scored a quick 45 off 29 balls and helped Australia cross the 150-run mark. Later, Cooper Connolly and Xavier Bartlett played a few attacking shots and pushed the total to 182 in 20 overs.
Mark Adair (2/44 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for Ireland. Harry Tector, George Dockrell, and Matthew Humphreys took one wicket each.
Australia dominate the chase
Ireland suffered an early setback in the chase. Paul Stirling retired hurt after facing just one ball. Nathan Ellis (4/12 in 3.5 overs) and Adam Zampa (4/23 in 4 overs) led the Australian attack. They broke the Irish batting line-up and did not allow the batters to settle.
Lorcan Tucker and George Dockrell showed some fight. They added 46 runs for the sixth wicket. After their dismissals, Australia wrapped up the innings quickly in the 17th over. Ireland fell short by 67 runs. George Dockrell was the highest scorer for Ireland.
