Rolls-Royce CEO Meets PM Modi, Plans Major Expansion in India
Rolls-Royce plans to expand its operations in India and strengthen partnerships in advanced engineering, manufacturing, and defence following CEO Tufan Erginbilgic’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Rolls-Royce CEO Tufan Erginbilgic met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday. During the meeting, they discussed plans to expand the British engineering company’s operations in India. The expansion supports the government’s Viksit Bharat vision, which aims to transform India into a developed nation.

After the meeting, Prime Minister Modi shared a message on X. He wrote, “It was wonderful meeting Mr Tufan Erginbilgic, CEO of Rolls-Royce, earlier today,” responding to a post from the company about their discussion.

Focus on expanding operations in India

The Prime Minister said India welcomes Rolls-Royce’s interest in growing its presence in the country. He highlighted the importance of collaboration with India’s young and skilled workforce. “We welcome Rolls-Royce’s enthusiasm towards scaling up its activities in India and partnering with our innovative and dynamic youth,” he said.

Rolls-Royce also released a statement about the meeting. The company said Erginbilgic and PM Modi talked about strengthening its footprint in India. One key plan includes expanding its Global Capability Centre (GCC). The company aims to make it the largest such facility in the world.

Manufacturing and advanced engineering

The discussion also covered cooperation in complex manufacturing. Both sides talked about building high-value engineering skills in India. Rolls-Royce said these plans match its long-term strategy to deepen its role in India’s growing industrial and engineering sectors.

The company added, "Tufan Erginbilgic and Sashi Mukundan (India EVP) also spoke to the Prime Minister about how Rolls-Royce’s advanced technologies can support India’s Atmanirbhar journey in defence and critical sectors."

India as a core market

The meeting follows earlier remarks by Erginbilgic about India’s importance to Rolls-Royce. In October 2025, he said the company has “deep ambitions” to develop India as a home market. He described India as strategically important for the group’s future growth.

Rolls-Royce has stated that it wants to contribute to India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat mission. The company plans to build stronger local partnerships, invest in training and skill development, and increase sourcing from Indian suppliers.

Recently, Rolls-Royce opened its expanded Global Capability and Innovation Centre in Bengaluru. The company said this centre is on track to become its largest capability hub worldwide. It will support major areas such as civil aerospace, defence, and power systems.

The meeting signals a stronger partnership between India and Rolls-Royce, with a focus on technology, manufacturing, and long-term industrial growth.
