USA crushed Netherlands by 93 runs in the 21st match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. USA put 196/6 on the scoreboard in 20 overs after being invited to bat first. A blazing half-century by Saiteja Mukkamalla, followed by a fiery knock from Shubham Ranjane, helped USA reach 196 runs. Bas de Leede (3/37 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for Netherlands.
In reply, Netherlands were bowled out for 103 in 15.5 overs. Harmeet Singh (4/21 in 4 overs) and Shadley van Schalkwyk (3/21 in 2.5 overs) demolished the Netherlands batting line-up. Mohammad Mohsin also took two wickets for USA. Bas de Leede remained the highest scorer for Netherlands. With this win, USA have now moved to third position in Group A.
USA Top Order Sets the Tone
The match was played as the first evening game of the tournament in Chennai, where USA made an aggressive start after being asked to bat first. Openers Shayan Jahangir and Monank Patel began with attacking intent and looked for boundaries early. Even though captain Monank had suggested at the toss that the top order should take some time to settle, Jahangir went after the bowlers from the very first over. He smashed two sixes off short balls in his first few deliveries before being bowled by Aryan Klein for 20 off 13 balls.
Monank then took charge and kept the scoring rate high. He started with a stylish straight drive for four and continued to play positive cricket. Soon, Mukkamalla joined the charge and began playing big shots right from the start.
Mukkamalla Anchors the Innings
Mukkamalla played a brilliant knock of 79 off 51 balls and controlled the innings for nearly 14 overs. He attacked both pace and spin with confidence. He hit sixes straight down the ground, over covers, and kept finding gaps with ease. At just 21, he looked as composed as someone "who has been playing for USA for ten years", his captain said after the game.
Monank also supported well with a few boundaries before being dismissed by Bas de Leede after mistiming a slower ball. Mukkamalla, however, continued to dominate. At one stage, he moved from 25 off 20 balls by smashing four boundaries in quick succession. His 30-ball fifty came with a powerful six over covers, putting more pressure on the bowlers.
Later, Sanjay Krishnamurthi fell to a slower delivery, but Mukkamalla kept the scoreboard moving until he was finally dismissed for 79.
Ranjane Finishes Strongly
Shubham Ranjane once again proved his value in the death overs. Fresh from a quick 51 in the previous match, he played an aggressive cameo and targeted the slower deliveries. He used clever footwork, moving across the crease and hitting slog sweeps, pulls, and flicks.
He scored heavily in the 18th and 19th overs, ensuring USA reached a huge total that Netherlands had never chased before in a T20 World Cup.
Spinners Take Control
USA’s bowlers then dominated from the start. Nosthush Kenjige gave the first breakthrough in the second over by dismissing Michael Levitt with a low delivery. Soon after, Harmeet Singh took charge during the powerplay and changed the course of the match.
Harmeet picked wickets in back-to-back overs, removing Max O'Dowd and Bas de Leede. He later found his rhythm, bowled with tight lines, and varied his pace smartly. His disciplined bowling rattled Scott Edwards’ stumps and trapped Roelof van der Merwe lbw. He finished with impressive figures of 4 for 21, his second four-wicket haul in T20Is.
At the halfway stage, Netherlands needed more than 12 runs per over and were already under pressure. They could not recover from the early damage.
Netherlands Collapse Under Pressure
The pitch helped slower deliveries and cutters, and USA bowlers used it well. Shadley van Schalkwyk continued his excellent form by taking three wickets. His wobble-seam delivery dismissed Colin Ackermann early, while another clever cutter removed Aryan Dutt. He wrapped up the innings in the 16th over.
Netherlands lost five wickets for just 28 runs towards the end and were bowled out for 103, falling short by 93 runs. Van Schalkwyk now leads the wicket-taking charts with 11 wickets in the tournament.
Overall, it was a complete performance from USA, with strong batting followed by disciplined spin bowling that secured a convincing and historic victory.
