Zelenskyy Warns of Massive Energy Damage as War Enters Fourth Year
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that relentless strikes by Russia have damaged every power plant in Ukraine, deepening winter heating shortages for millions.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that every power plant in Ukraine has been damaged due to repeated strikes by Russia. He warned that these attacks have caused serious heating shortages for millions of people during the winter season.

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Zelenskyy said the energy sector has suffered continuous destruction since the war began. He stressed that the strikes appear to be aimed at leaving civilians without electricity and heat.

“There is not a single power plant left in Ukraine that has not been damaged by Russian attacks. Not one,” Zelenskyy said.

“But we still generate electricity,” he added defiantly, praising the thousands of workers repairing the plants.

Appeal for Stronger Air Defence Support

Zelenskyy urged Western allies to speed up the supply of air defence systems to protect the country’s energy facilities. He said the country sometimes receives missiles for systems like Patriots and NASAMS, but more regular deliveries are needed.

“Sometimes we manage to deliver new missiles for our Patriots or NASAMS,” he said.

He praised the efforts of engineers and technicians who continue to repair damaged infrastructure even under constant threat of attacks.

Strong Remarks Against Vladimir Putin

The Ukrainian president strongly criticised Vladimir Putin and compared him to Adolf Hitler. He said the Russian leader is driven by conflict and power.

“He may see himself as a tsar, but in reality he is a slave to war.”

Zelenskyy also said that people in Ukraine do not believe Russia will willingly end the war. “No one in Ukraine believes (Putin) will let our people go.”

Peace Talks and Rising Tensions

Despite the ongoing fighting, Zelenskyy said Ukraine is doing “everything” possible to bring the war to an end. Talks between both sides, supported by the United States, are expected to take place in Geneva next week.

Russia has demanded that Ukraine withdraw from the Donetsk region and accept Russian control over occupied areas. However, Kyiv has clearly stated that giving up its eastern territories is not acceptable.

Concerns Over Pressure on Ukraine

Zelenskyy said Ukraine is often asked to make more concessions than Russia during discussions. He expressed concern that international talks sometimes focus only on what Ukraine should give up.

“The Americans often return to the topic of concessions, and too often those concessions are discussed in the context only of Ukraine,” he said.

He also warned that Russia may be trying to repeat historical mistakes, referring to the division of Czechoslovakia before the Second World War.
