Russia Shuts Moscow Airports After Ukrainian Drone Threat
Russia temporarily closed Moscow’s four main airports after air defences shot down at least 11 Ukrainian drones approaching the capital, as both sides intensified aerial attacks.

Russia shut down all four of Moscow’s major airports on Sunday after Ukrainian drones approached the capital’s airspace. The move marked a sharp escalation in the nearly four-year war.

Moscow Airports Closed After Drone Threat

Authorities suspended operations at Domodedovo Airport, Vnukovo International Airport, Sheremetyevo International Airport and Zhukovsky International Airport. These airports handle most domestic and international flights to and from Moscow.

Local officials said air-defence units shot down at least 11 Ukrainian drones within about an hour. The drones were heading toward the capital.

Russia’s aviation authority, Rosaviatsia, stopped all flights as a precaution. Officials said they acted to protect civilian aircraft and passengers.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said air-defence forces were actively intercepting drones near the city. Authorities later described the closures as temporary. They said they aimed only to ensure safety.

War Reaches Deeper Into Russian Skies

Russian officials have often accused Ukraine of launching long-range drone attacks inside Russia. Kyiv rarely comments on specific strikes.

Sunday’s incident showed how the conflict continues to spread. Ukrainian forces have relied heavily on drones. They have targeted energy sites and logistics hubs. Russia has responded with stronger air-defence operations and counterstrikes.

Fresh Attacks Inside Ukraine

On the same day, Russia launched dozens of drones and missiles at targets in Ukraine. Ukrainian officials said the strikes hit energy infrastructure in Kyiv and other regions. At least one person died. Several others were injured. Fires broke out in multiple areas.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the assault. He called for tougher international sanctions against Moscow. He said the repeated strikes aim to weaken Ukraine’s defence and morale.

The exchange of drone and missile attacks shows how both sides continue to expand the use of unmanned warfare. The conflict remains intense, with no sign of easing.
