US Israel Attack On Iran: Indian Crew Member Killed as Drone Boat Hits Oil Tanker in Gulf of Oman
A bomb-carrying drone boat hit an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman, killing an Indian mariner as tensions escalate near the Strait of Hormuz.

US Israel Attack On Iran: A bomb-loaded drone boat struck a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman on Monday. The attack killed one crew member.

Oman confirmed the incident through its state news agency. The Oman News Agency said the strike happened off the coast of Muscat. Officials identified the vessel as MKD VYOM. They later confirmed that the dead crew member was from India.

Earlier, Reuters reported that a projectile hit the tanker while it sailed near Oman. The vessel’s manager, V.Ships, confirmed the fatality but did not initially reveal the nationality.

V.Ships Asia said, "The vessel suffered an explosion and subsequent fire after being struck by a suspected projectile while off the coast of Muscat, Oman on 1 March."

The company added, "It is with great sadness that we confirm one crew member, who was in the engine room at the time of the incident, has died."

Rising Tensions in Strait of Hormuz Amid Iran-US Conflict

The attack occurred as tensions surged in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route. Iran has warned vessels operating near the waterway. Reports suggest it has carried out several strikes as fighting continues in the region.

The conflict intensified after the United States and Israel launched major airstrikes on Iran. The strikes targeted military sites and killed Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

On Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi addressed questions about Iranian attacks across Gulf nations. Explosions were reported for a second day in Dubai, Doha, Manama, and Duqm in Oman.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Araghchi commented on the strike at Duqm port. Oman has acted as a mediator between Iran and the US-Israel alliance. He said the attack was not the regime’s choice. He added that the armed forces were now “acting independently” under general instructions.

Second Tanker Attack Injures Indian Crew Members Near Musandam

On Sunday, another oil tanker was hit off Oman’s Musandam peninsula. Fifteen Indian nationals were on board. Four crew members suffered injuries of varying severity.

Authorities did not specify what struck the vessel. The incident followed earlier drone strikes at Duqm port on the Arabian Sea.

The tanker Skylight was sailing about five nautical miles north of Khasab Port in the Strait of Hormuz when the attack occurred. Authorities evacuated all 20 crew members. The crew included 15 Indians and 5 Iranians.

Sea Force Inc owns the vessel. Red Sea Ship Management LLC manages it.

The US Treasury Department sanctioned Red Sea Ship Management and Skylight in December last year. It accused the company of operating a “shadow fleet” to transport Iranian petroleum products.

Iran Claims Oil Tanker Sinking in Strait of Hormuz

Iranian state television reported Sunday that another oil tanker was sinking after being struck while attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

State TV said:
"The fate of the offending oil tanker that was struck while attempting to illegally pass through the Strait of Hormuz is that it is now sinking,"

The channel aired footage showing thick black smoke rising from a burning vessel.

The Strait of Hormuz carries about one-quarter of the world’s seaborne oil and one-fifth of global liquefied natural gas shipments.

On Saturday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards warned that the waterway was unsafe because of US and Israeli attacks. They declared it closed to ships.
