Delhi woke up to another spell of light rain on Monday. However, temperatures are likely to increase slowly in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the sky will remain cloudy throughout the week.

This weather pattern comes after unusual rainfall on Thursday and Friday, which gave relief from the heat.

Cooler Weather Continues Despite Slight Temperature Rise

The cooling effect of recent rains continued on Sunday. Even though temperatures rose slightly compared to Saturday, they stayed below normal levels.

The maximum temperature reached 29.5°C, which was 2°C below normal. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature stood at 15.6°C, about 1.7°C lower than usual.

Cloudy Week Ahead With Light Rain Chances

The IMD has predicted “generally cloudy skies with a possibility of very light rain accompanied with thunderstorm/lightning during forenoon to afternoon” for Monday.

Cloudy conditions are expected to continue for the entire week. By Saturday, the maximum temperature may rise to 32–34°C. The minimum temperature is likely to stay between 16°C and 18°C.

Weak Western Disturbance Behind Current Weather

Meteorologist Navdeep Dahiya explained that a weak western disturbance is affecting the region. It may bring some light to moderate rainfall in parts of north India.

“A feeble western disturbance is expected to bring cloudy weather along with isolated light to moderate rains across Delhi-NCR, Haryana, North Punjab, Rajasthan, and Chandigarh on Monday morning into late evening hours. These won’t bring widespread rains like the previous ones as the western disturbance is feeble,” meteorologist Navdeep Dahiya posted on X.

Stronger System May Bring Thunderstorms Later

Meanwhile, Skymet president Mahesh Palawat gave a slightly different view. He said the current system may not impact Delhi much.

“It is very feeble and will affect the hills only. However, there are chances of thunderstorms in the city on March 26 and 27 as a stronger western disturbance is likely.”

This suggests that more noticeable weather activity could arrive later in the week.

Air Quality Remains in Moderate Range

Delhi’s air quality stayed in the moderate category. The 24-hour average AQI was recorded at 153 at 4 pm on Monday. This is slightly higher than Sunday’s AQI of 119, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
