New Zealand Women Outclass South Africa in 5th T20I to Seal 4-1 Series Win
New Zealand Women dominated South Africa Women with a 92-run win, powered by Amelia Kerr’s century to seal the series 4-1.

New Zealand Women crushed South Africa Women by 92 runs in the fifth T20I of the five match series in Christchurch. After being invited to bat first, New Zealand Women posted 194/6 in 20 overs. Amelia Kerr hit a blazing century and held one end till the final over despite wickets falling around her.

Ayabonga Khaka (3/32 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for South Africa Women, while Tumi Sekhukhune also took three wickets. In reply, South Africa Women managed only 102/9 in 20 overs against New Zealand’s disciplined and effective bowling attack.

Lea Tahuhu (3/15 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for New Zealand Women, while Amelia Kerr and Sophie Devine picked up two wickets each. Annerie Dercksen was the highest scorer for South Africa Women. With this win, New Zealand Women sealed the series 4-1.

Kerr’s Record-Breaking Century Anchors Innings

Kerr scored a brilliant 105 off just 55 balls, marking her highest T20I score. She hit 19 fours and a six on a pitch where batting was not easy. Her innings came at a crucial time after New Zealand lost early wickets.

Apart from her, Georgia Plimmer contributed 27 runs, while no other batter crossed 30. Kerr’s knock helped New Zealand post a strong total of 194/6, their fourth-highest in T20Is.

Early Scare Before Dominating Performance

Kerr had a shaky start when she nearly got out on her first ball, giving a tough chance to Ayabonga Khaka. After surviving, she played cautiously at first, scoring only six runs off her first ten balls.

However, she shifted gears after the powerplay. She attacked Nadine de Klerk and found regular boundaries. Her aggressive shots, including slog sweeps against Sune Luus, helped New Zealand recover to 72/3 at the halfway stage.

Kerr Accelerates to Century in Style

Kerr reached her half-century in 34 balls and then increased the pace. She survived another dropped catch later in the innings and continued to dominate the bowlers.

She smashed de Klerk for a six and two fours in one over, and then hit three consecutive boundaries off Masabata Klaas to bring up her second T20I century. Kerr was eventually dismissed in the final over, but by then New Zealand had set a tough target of 195.

South Africa Collapse Under Pressure

The chase never gained momentum for South Africa. Four of their top-six batters were dismissed for single-digit scores. Lea Tahuhu struck early, while Kerr, Sophie Devine, Nensi Patel, and Flora Devonshire kept tight control.

Key Wickets Seal the Match

South Africa lost key players quickly. Chloe Tryon and Luus were dismissed early, followed by wickets of Anneke Bosch and Laura Wolvaardt.

When de Klerk fell to Kerr’s bowling, South Africa were struggling at 57/5, effectively ending the contest.

Minor Resistance but Heavy Defeat

Annerie Dercksen top-scored with 23 runs, hitting four boundaries. However, she could not counter Kerr’s variations and was eventually dismissed.

South Africa managed only 102/9 in 20 overs, marking one of their heaviest defeats in T20Is. A small last-wicket partnership between Khaka and Tumi Sekhukhune prevented them from being bowled out.

Kerr Shines with the Ball Too

Kerr also impressed with the ball, delivering an economical spell of 3-0-6-2. Her all-round display completely outclassed South Africa and highlighted her dominance in the match.
