Jasprit Bumrah has linked up with the Mumbai Indians squad and is available for their opening IPL 2026 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Head coach Mahela Jayawardene confirmed the development.
Bumrah Completes Training at Centre of Excellence
Recently, Bumrah trained at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. He focused on strength and conditioning as part of his preparation. The Board of Control for Cricket in India medical team designed this plan, keeping India’s upcoming white-ball tour of England in July in mind.
Therefore, his return to the squad signals that he is fit and ready for competitive action.
Overseas Players Yet to Join Squad
However, not all players have arrived yet. Mitchell Santner and Will Jacks are still unavailable.
Jayawardene explained the situation, saying, "Mitch and Jacksy asked for an extended personal time at home." However, he did not confirm when they would join the squad.
MI May Adjust Playing XI
In their absence, Mumbai Indians may adjust their lineup. The team could include Sherfane Rutherford in the middle order. They may also use Afghanistan spinner AM Ghazanfar as a bowling option.
MI Prepare for Season Opener
With Bumrah back in the squad, Mumbai Indians gain a major boost ahead of their first match. At the same time, the team management will need to balance the lineup until all overseas players become available.
