Iraq said on Tuesday that unknown attackers kidnapped a foreign journalist. Soon after the incident, security forces carried out a chase operation and arrested one suspect.

Authorities have not officially confirmed the journalist’s nationality. However, local media reports identified her as Shelly Kittleson, a US citizen who works with several international news organizations.

Kidnapping Reported, Location Not Officially Confirmed

The Interior Ministry said in a statement that the journalist was abducted earlier in the evening. However, it did not mention the exact location of the incident.

Security teams quickly started an operation to find the kidnappers. They tracked the suspects and pursued them on the ground.

Chase Leads to Arrest of One Suspect

During the operation, security forces chased a vehicle believed to be used by the kidnappers. The vehicle overturned while the suspects tried to escape.

Officials confirmed that one suspect was arrested during the chase. At the same time, efforts are still ongoing to find the remaining attackers and safely rescue the kidnapped journalist.

According to Iraqi media, the kidnapping took place in central Baghdad.

Reports also said that Shelly Kittleson is based between Baghdad and Italy. She works for Al-Monitor and covers issues related to the Middle East and Afghanistan.
