Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Hits Back at Congress, Says Allegations Against Wife Are Fake
Himanta Biswa Sarma rejects Congress allegations against his wife, calls documents fake, and warns of strict legal action.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said his wife has filed an FIR after Congress leader Pawan Khera accused her of holding multiple foreign passports. Sarma strongly denied the claims and said the allegations are baseless. He also warned of strict legal action if fake documents are used to influence elections.

Warning of Strict Legal Consequences

Sarma said using fabricated documents in an election context is a serious offence. He warned that such actions could attract severe punishment.

“When you use these allegations with fabricated documents to influence a result or outcome of an election, then it attracts higher penalty provisions, and the punishment for that is life imprisonment,” he said during a press conference.

Congress Levels Multiple Allegations

Khera claimed that Sarma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan, holds passports from the United Arab Emirates, Antigua-Barbuda, and Egypt. He also alleged that she has undisclosed business interests abroad.

Additionally, Khera claimed that the Chief Minister’s family owns properties in Dubai and has business links in the United States. Gaurav Gogoi supported these claims. He said holding multiple passports and not declaring properties is a serious and punishable offence.

He also alleged that Sarma’s wife owns two properties in Dubai, which were not disclosed in the affidavits submitted to the Election Commission.

Sarma Calls Documents Fake

Sarma rejected all allegations and said the documents shown by the Congress were fake.

He stated that one of the passports presented as evidence was not genuine. Sarma added that checks with Dubai authorities and the Indian government confirmed this.

He also claimed that the passport image was originally uploaded by a Pakistani social media user and later altered.

“They (Congress) did AI Photoshop in the passport. Tipu Sultan had uploaded the original passport on social media. The Egyptian passport is also fake. You can find out through Google Reverse,” Sarma said.

Pakistan Link Alleged

Sarma further alleged that the material used in the Congress press conferences came from a Pakistani social media group.

He said such involvement raises serious concerns. According to him, several discussions about Assam elections have recently appeared on Pakistani media platforms.

He added that these programmes often suggested that Congress should win, which he said shows a possible connection.

FIR Filed, Probe Expected

Sarma confirmed that his wife has filed an FIR over the allegations. He expressed confidence that police will investigate the matter and take action under appropriate legal provisions.

He also said that using foreign assistance to defame him is “a crime against the nation.”

Political Tensions Rise

The controversy has increased political tension ahead of the elections. Both sides continue to exchange sharp statements, while authorities are expected to examine the claims and evidence in detail.
