Modi, Trump Hold 40-Minute Call Amid West Asia Tensions
Modi and Trump review ties and regional tensions after failed US-Iran talks raise fresh concerns.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump spoke on the phone for nearly 40 minutes. This was their first conversation after the US-Iran ceasefire, according to PTI.

The discussion came at a time of rising tensions in West Asia. Both leaders reviewed important global and regional issues during the call.

US Envoy Highlights Strong India-US Relations

During this high-level engagement, Sergio Gor said that ties between India and the United States remain strong. He emphasised the close and friendly relationship shared by the two countries.

Sharing details of the call, Gor said that Trump expressed warmth towards Modi. He quoted Trump as saying, “I just want you to know we all love you,” according to PTI.

Focus on Strategic Partnership and Cooperation

After the conversation, Narendra Modi shared an update on X. He said he received a call from his “friend” President Trump.

He added that both leaders reviewed progress in cooperation across different sectors. “We are committed to further strengthening our Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership in all areas,” he said.

This shows that both nations are looking to deepen their partnership further.

Discussion on West Asia and Key Shipping Route

The leaders also discussed the situation in West Asia. Narendra Modi stressed the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure. This route is critical for global energy supply. Any disruption here can impact many countries, including India.

Third Conversation This Year

This was the third time Narendra Modi and Donald Trump spoke this year. They first spoke on February 2 to discuss progress on a trade deal. They talked again on March 24 to review the situation in West Asia after tensions increased following US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.

Talks Between US and Iran End Without Breakthrough

The latest call happened soon after fresh talks between the United States and Iran ended without any agreement.

Both countries held around 21 hours of direct discussions in Islamabad. However, they failed to reach a solution, which has raised concerns over the fragile two-week ceasefire.

US officials said the talks failed because Iran refused to give up its nuclear programme. On the other hand, Iran blamed the United States for disrupting the negotiations but did not give detailed reasons for the disagreement.
