IPL 2026: Prabhsimran, Iyer Power Punjab Kings Past Mumbai Indians in Dominant Chase
Punjab Kings stayed unbeaten in IPL 2026 as Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer powered a dominant chase, overshadowing Quinton de Kock’s brilliant century for Mumbai Indians.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) outclassed Mumbai Indians (MI) by 7 wickets in the 24th match of IPL 2026 at Wankhede Stadium. After being asked to bat first, Mumbai Indians posted 195/6 on the scoreboard in 20 overs. Quinton de Kock played a superb knock of 112 runs off 60 balls and remained unbeaten till the end.

Naman Dhir supported him well and added 122 runs for the third wicket after Mumbai Indians lost two quick wickets in the third over. Dhir scored 50 runs off 31 balls. Arshdeep Singh (3/22 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for Punjab Kings. Marco Jansen and Shashank Singh also took one wicket each.

While chasing, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh gave a flying start to Punjab Kings. Priyansh Arya and then Cooper Connolly got out early after getting good starts. Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer then added a quickfire 139-run partnership for the third wicket and brought Punjab Kings closer to the finishing line. Shreyas Iyer scored 66 runs off 35 balls, while Prabhsimran Singh scored 80 runs off 39 balls and remained unbeaten till the end.

With this win, Punjab Kings remain unbeaten and are now sitting at the top of the table with 9 points. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians, after their fourth straight loss, are currently in 9th position in the table.

De Kock’s Comeback Hundred Goes in Vain

Quinton de Kock made a strong return to the Mumbai Indians playing XI. He scored an impressive 112 runs off 60 balls. However, his effort could not secure a win for his team.

He got his chance after Rohit Sharma missed the match due to injury. With this innings, de Kock became only the third batter to score IPL centuries for three different teams.

Naman Dhir also supported well. He batted at No. 4 and scored a steady 50 off 31 balls. Despite this partnership, Mumbai Indians failed to build momentum in the later stages.

Arshdeep Singh Sets the Early Tone

Arshdeep Singh delivered a complete bowling performance. He swung the new ball effectively and later used reverse swing with the old ball. He also bowled a tight over in the middle phase.

He troubled Ryan Rickelton early. In fact, he beat his bat three times in the first over. Soon after, he dismissed Rickelton with a wobble-seam delivery.

Against Suryakumar Yadav, Arshdeep changed his angle cleverly. He forced an edge and picked up another wicket. With that, he crossed 100 IPL wickets.

MI Build Strong Start but Lose Control

De Kock started aggressively. He hit a stylish aerial drive on the very first ball he faced. However, Punjab Kings missed a few chances early.

Yuzvendra Chahal dropped Naman Dhir. Later, Shreyas Iyer also missed a run-out opportunity when de Kock was struggling to make his ground.

Chahal had a difficult outing. He bowled too full and gave away 45 runs in just three overs, including five sixes. Dhir attacked him confidently, especially with a powerful shot over extra cover.

At one stage, Mumbai Indians were well placed at 125 for 2 in 12 overs. A total above 200 looked very likely.

PBKS Bowlers Pull Things Back

Punjab Kings made a strong comeback in the final overs. Marco Jansen started the shift by conceding only seven runs in the 13th over. Shashank Singh then broke the partnership. His slower pace once again proved effective, just like in a previous match.

Dhir’s innings ended after 50 runs. He showed glimpses similar to Hardik Pandya with his compact style. Pandya himself, however, struggled and scored only 14 runs.

His dismissal was special. Shreyas Iyer took a stunning catch at long-on. He jumped, caught the ball mid-air, balanced himself near the boundary, and threw it back to Xavier Bartlett before landing outside.

In the death overs, Arshdeep and Jansen bowled excellent yorkers. Mumbai managed only 70 runs in the last eight overs. Dhir later admitted that his team was about 20 runs short.

Ghazanfar Gives MI Brief Hope

Punjab Kings started their chase aggressively. Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran attacked Deepak Chahar early. However, Mumbai Indians fought back briefly. Jasprit Bumrah bowled a tight spell and built pressure. Allah Ghazanfar picked up two key wickets in the powerplay.

Arya was caught at midwicket, while Cooper Connolly edged one behind. At that moment, Mumbai sensed an opportunity.

Prabhsimran and Iyer Take Full Control

Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer then took charge of the chase. They did not allow Mumbai to recover. Prabhsimran got an early lifeline when Bumrah dropped him on 11. He made full use of it and stayed unbeaten on 80 off 39 balls. This was also his first unbeaten innings in a successful IPL chase.

Iyer played a calm and confident knock. He scored 66 off 35 balls. This was his third consecutive half-century. He started with a boundary on the first ball he faced.

Prabhsimran Shifts Gears Brilliantly

Prabhsimran faced only six balls in the first five overs. But once the field spread out, he accelerated quickly. He attacked Deepak Chahar in the eighth over. He stepped out and smashed a huge six over long-off. Then he followed it with a boundary.

Soon, he dominated the strike. He reached his fifty in just 23 balls with back-to-back fours off Shardul Thakur.

MI Bowlers Fail to Contain the Chase

Jasprit Bumrah bowled well but remained unlucky. He went wicketless again. When Iyer pulled him for a six in the 13th over, the game slipped away from Mumbai.

With 50 runs needed from seven overs, Punjab Kings were already in control. Prabhsimran sealed the match with a four and a six off Hardik Pandya. The chase ended comfortably with 21 balls to spare. Even Bumrah finished with figures of 0 for 41.

Their batting looked strong and confident. While de Kock’s century was a major highlight, Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer completely dominated the chase.
