The United States and Iran will meet again in Islamabad on Monday. This comes nearly a week after their last talks ended without a deal. CNN reported this, citing Iranian sources.
The US has not confirmed the meeting yet. However, US President Donald Trump earlier said both sides were “close to a deal”. He also said the Iran war could end “pretty soon”.
Last weekend, both countries held direct talks. They could not agree on Iran’s nuclear programme and other key issues. So, the meeting ended without progress.
Iran Reopens Strait of Hormuz
Iran reopened the Strait of Hormuz for commercial ships. This move brought relief to many countries. The route carries about 20% of the world’s oil.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi shared the update on X.
“In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire, on the coordinated route as already announced by Ports and Maritime Organisation of the Islamic Rep. of Iran,” Araghchi wrote on X.
This step followed a 10-day ceasefire in Lebanon. The truce involves Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah group.
US Keeps Blockade in Place
The United States did not relax its stance. Donald Trump said the US Navy will continue its blockade on Iranian ships and ports.
He said the restrictions will stay until both sides reach a full agreement. This includes issues related to Iran’s nuclear programme.
At first, Trump welcomed Iran’s move. He said the strait was "fully open and ready for full passage.” Soon after, he posted again. He said the blockade would continue “UNTIL SUCH TIME AS OUR TRANSACTION WITH IRAN IS 100% COMPLETE.”
Iran Issues Strong Warning
Iran warned the US soon after reopening the route. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Iran could close the strait again. "With the continuation of the blockade, the Strait of Hormuz will not remain open," Ghalibaf wrote on X.
He also said Iran may control access to the route in future.
Situation Remains Tense
Both sides plan to talk again. But tensions remain high. The reopening of the strait has eased global fears for now. However, the US blockade and Iran’s warning show the situation is fragile. The next round of talks will be crucial.
