Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) outclassed Delhi Capitals (DC) by 47 runs in the 31st match of IPL 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. After being asked to bat first, SRH posted a massive total of 242/2 in 20 overs.
When DC invited SRH to bat first, they did not expect the kind of innings Abhishek Sharma produced. He batted through the innings and scored a blazing 135 off just 68 balls. Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, and Heinrich Klaasen supported him well. A fiery cameo from Klaasen at the end helped SRH reach such a huge total. Axar Patel (1/23 in 2 overs) was the most successful bowler for Delhi Capitals.
In reply, Dilshan Madushanka (1/36 in 4 overs) gave an early breakthrough to DC by dismissing Pathum Nissanka in the third over. After that, KL Rahul and Nitish Rana gave DC some hope with a quick 86-run partnership for the second wicket. Rana scored 57 off 30 balls but got out in the 11th over, just after Rahul was dismissed in the 10th.
Eshan Malinga (4/32 in 4 overs) and Harsh Dubey (3/12 in 2 overs) then dismantled DC’s middle and lower order. Sameer Rizvi tried to fight back but received little support from the other batters. DC eventually managed 195/9 and lost the match by 47 runs. With this win, SRH moved to third place in the points table. It was their third consecutive victory.
Steady start sets the tone
For the second match in a row, Abhishek and Travis Head began cautiously. They added 26 runs in the first three overs, similar to their previous outing. The approach suggested that SRH were focusing on building a solid base rather than chasing extremely high totals every time, especially considering their strong bowling unit.
Record-breaking knock
Abhishek’s innings was historic. It was his ninth T20 century, bringing him level with Virat Kohli for the most hundreds by an Indian in the format. Only three players have scored more T20 centuries overall.
He also matched his own record for the most sixes in an SRH innings, smashing ten sixes. This knock now ranks among the top five highest scores in IPL history.
Abhishek accelerates after cautious start
At 12 off 7 balls early on, Abhishek began to shift gears. He targeted bowlers like Lungi Ngidi and attacked the introduction of Nitish Rana. He hit Rana for consecutive sixes, with Head also joining in.
SRH reached 67 without loss in the powerplay. Even though it was relatively slower by their standards, it provided a strong platform.
Middle overs carnage
After Head’s dismissal, Kishan joined Abhishek and the pair launched an aggressive counterattack. They took 22 runs off an over from Kuldeep Yadav and kept the pressure on.
Despite decent spells from T Natarajan and Mukesh Kumar, SRH continued to score heavily. When Rana returned to bowl, Abhishek smashed 23 runs in an over and brought up his century in just 47 balls.
Klaasen finishes strongly
At one stage, Abhishek looked capable of challenging Chris Gayle’s record 175. However, he slowed down towards the end, scoring only 20 runs off his last 17 balls.
Klaasen made up for it with a powerful 37 off 13 balls, while Kishan added a quick 25 off 13, pushing SRH to an imposing total.
Madushanka impresses on debut
Dilshan Madushanka made an immediate impact on his IPL debut. He used swing and variation effectively and removed Pathum Nissanka early with a catch at mid-off.
DC collapse under pressure
Delhi Capitals struggled in the chase. KL Rahul and Rana tried to steady the innings, but the required run rate kept climbing. The match turned decisively when Sakib Hussain and Eshan Malinga picked up key wickets in quick succession. Malinga struck twice in four balls and was even on a hat-trick after dismissing Rana and David Miller.
Malinga’s clever mix of reverse swing and slower deliveries earned him four wickets. Since his IPL debut last year, he has taken 21 wickets after the 10th over in just 14 matches, second only to Prasidh Krishna among fast bowlers.
Late wickets seal the game
Left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey added to DC’s troubles by taking three wickets in the final over, all caught in the deep. In the end, SRH’s massive total and disciplined bowling proved far too strong, sealing a comfortable win.
Abhishek Sharma delivered a remarkable performance as he played a full 20-over innings for the first time in the IPL and still remained unbeaten on 135 runs off 68 balls. His knock guided Sunrisers Hyderabad to a massive total of 242/2 against Delhi Capitals.
He received strong support from Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen, whose quick runs helped SRH post a daunting score. The victory lifted SRH to joint second place on the table alongside Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals, although both teams still have a match in hand.
