The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election has produced a dramatic outcome. Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has emerged as the single largest party as counting nears completion. This result breaks the long-standing dominance of Dravidian parties that have controlled the state’s politics for nearly 50 years.
As leaders work to finalise numbers, attention has shifted to possible alliances that could decide who forms the next government.
Social media reacts with ‘Joseph-Stalin’ meme
Amid the political uncertainty, social media users have picked up on an unusual coincidence. A viral meme highlights the names of the two central figures in the current situation.
Vijay’s full name is Chandrasekaran Joseph Vijay, while M. K. Stalin was named after Soviet leader Joseph Stalin.
One X user wrote: “If Joseph (Vijay) and Stalin (M.K.) go for a tie-up, Tamil Nadu won’t just be a state; it will be ruled by Russia. Joseph + Stalin = Joseph Stalin."
Another user, Ramesh Srivats, shared a similar take, calling it a “Tamil Nadu election update" with a Russian view.
Political reality remains tense
Despite the humour online, the political situation remains serious. During his campaign, Vijay clearly described the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) as his “political enemy.” This makes any potential alliance between TVK and DMK highly unlikely and politically surprising.
Numbers point to hung assembly
Current trends show TVK leading in 111 seats. Meanwhile, the DMK and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) alliances are trailing, with seat counts ranging between 59 and 44.
However, TVK may still fall short of the majority mark. This means Vijay will likely need support from other parties to form the government.
Alliance options remain open
Vijay could look towards the Congress and smaller parties to secure the required numbers. Another option is to seek support from the AIADMK. However, this could come with conditions, especially regarding any association with the BJP.
The final outcome will depend on how these post-poll negotiations unfold in the coming days.
