Mumbai Indians chased down 228 with ease as Rickelton and Rohit powered a dominant win, handing LSG their sixth straight defeat.

Mumbai Indians (MI) cruised past Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 6 wickets in the 47th match of IPL 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium. After being invited to bat first, LSG posted 228/5 in 20 overs. Following the early dismissal of Josh Inglis in the 3rd over, Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran added a quickfire 94 runs in just 34 balls for the second wicket. Nicholas Pooran scored a blazing 63 off 21 balls. Later, Aiden Markram and Himmat Singh stitched an unbeaten 68-run partnership for the sixth wicket to take LSG to 228. Corbin Bosch (2/20 in 2 overs) was the most successful bowler for MI.

In reply, Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma gave MI a flying start. They added 143 runs for the first wicket before Rickelton was dismissed by Mohsin Khan in the 11th over. When Rohit Sharma got out in the 14th over, MI were 177/2. After that, MI lost a few wickets, but Naman Dhir and Will Jacks finished the chase comfortably with 8 balls to spare. M. Siddharth (2/47 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for LSG.

With this win, Mumbai Indians ended their three-match losing streak. Meanwhile, LSG suffered their sixth straight defeat and remained at the bottom of the points table.

Pooran’s fireworks power LSG innings

LSG’s total was largely built on Pooran’s explosive batting. Promoted to No. 3, he attacked from the start. He hit multiple sixes, including three in one over off Will Jacks. He reached his fifty in just 16 balls, showing incredible hitting power.

This was a big turnaround for him, as he had struggled earlier in the season. His aggressive innings gave LSG a strong platform.

MI bowlers pull things back late

Despite Pooran’s assault, MI bowlers did well at the end. Corbin Bosch dismissed Pooran with a short ball. He also removed Mitchell Marsh soon after. LSG lost momentum in the final overs. They added only 53 runs in the last five overs, which proved costly.

Pant and middle order fail to capitalise

Rishabh Pant failed again and got out for just 15. He had an early lifeline but could not convert it. Himmat Singh remained unbeaten on 40, while Aiden Markram scored 31. However, their efforts were not enough to push LSG to a bigger total.

Rickelton sets the tone early

Rickelton played a fearless innings from the start. He hit his first six in the second over and kept attacking throughout the powerplay. He reached his fifty in just 22 balls. He especially targeted M Siddharth, scoring heavily against him. In one over alone, he collected 23 runs.

Rickelton eventually got out after a brilliant innings, but by then, MI were firmly in control.

Rohit finds rhythm after early struggle

Rohit did not start smoothly. He edged his first run and struggled against tight bowling early on. However, he quickly found his touch. He attacked Avesh Khan aggressively, hitting two fours and two sixes in one over. Soon, he dominated the bowlers with effortless shots all around the ground.

He also took on Mohammed Shami, pulling short balls and smashing full deliveries for boundaries. Once settled, Rohit controlled the chase with confidence before getting out in the 14th over.

Rohit and Rickelton dominate the chase

The chase was built on a stunning opening partnership. Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma added 143 runs for the first wicket. Rickelton played an explosive knock of 83 off 32 balls. Rohit, returning after missing five matches due to a hamstring injury, looked in complete control. He scored 84 off 44 balls and reached his half-century in just 27 balls.

By the time Rohit got out, MI needed only 52 runs from 36 balls. The remaining batters completed the job comfortably. Even though LSG posted a big score, MI’s powerful batting made the chase look easy and controlled from start to finish.
