While chasing, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler added 53 runs for the second wicket after Shubman Gill was dismissed early in the second over. Gujarat Titans kept losing wickets at regular intervals, but Washington Sundar took the match into the final over and kept his composure.
With three runs needed off the last two deliveries, Sundar went for an aerial shot and finished the match with a six. Gujarat Titans won the game with one ball to spare. Arshdeep Singh (2/24 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for Punjab Kings, while Vijaykumar Vyshak also took two wickets. With this win, Gujarat Titans earned two crucial points, while Punjab Kings remained at the top despite their second straight loss.
GT bowlers set up the win
GT controlled the game early with their pace attack. Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, and Jason Holder bowled hard lengths on a pitch that offered bounce and seam movement.
They reduced PBKS to 47 for 5. The early damage made it difficult for PBKS to recover fully.
Punjab Kings recover through Shedge and Stoinis
Suryansh Shedge and Marcus Stoinis brought PBKS back into the game. They added a crucial 79-run partnership.
Shedge, who started slowly, accelerated brilliantly. He reached his half-century in just 24 balls and attacked the bowlers with confidence. A poor over from Manav Suthar proved costly, as Shedge smashed 27 runs in it.
However, GT pulled things back towards the end. Holder dismissed Stoinis at a key moment and later removed Xavier Bartlett. PBKS finished at 163 for 9, which looked competitive but not imposing.
Sai Sudharsan anchors the chase
In reply, B Sai Sudharsan played a steady innings. He scored a composed half-century and laid the foundation for the chase. However, GT did not accelerate much and stayed close to the required rate throughout.
Other batters also took a cautious approach. Jos Buttler scored 26 off 22 balls, while debutant Nishant Sindhu made 15 off 11. Washington Sundar also started slowly.
Tense finish but GT hold nerve
The match went down to the final over. GT needed 11 runs to win. Arshad Khan hit a crucial boundary off a yorker from Stoinis.
Then, with three runs needed off two balls, Washington Sundar showed great composure. He scooped a full toss over fine leg for six and sealed the win with one ball to spare.
GT’s winning formula continues
This was GT’s third straight win in similar fashion. They controlled the opposition with disciplined bowling and then chased down a moderate target with calm batting from their top order.
Although the margin was small, GT once again proved their ability to handle pressure and finish games efficiently.
