India Condemns Attack on Indian-Flagged Ship Near Oman
India condemned the attack on an Indian-flagged vessel near Oman and raised concern over growing threats to civilian shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz region.

India on Thursday strongly condemned the attack on an Indian-flagged commercial vessel near the coast of Oman. The government called the incident “unacceptable”.

Meanwhile, India also expressed concern over repeated attacks on civilian ships and mariners in international waters.

MEA reacts strongly to incident

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said India remains worried about rising threats to commercial shipping routes across the region.

“The attack on an Indian-flagged ship off the coast of Oman yesterday is unacceptable and we deplore the fact that commercial shipping and civilian mariners continue to be targeted,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.

Crew members rescued safely

Fortunately, the government confirmed that all Indian crew members on board are safe. Soon after the attack, Omani authorities helped rescue the crew members. However, India has not yet identified the group behind the attack.

Strait of Hormuz remains highly sensitive

The incident took place amid rising tensions around the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman. Importantly, the route remains one of the world’s most critical energy corridors because a large portion of global oil trade passes through the region.

Earlier attacks had also targeted Indian vessels

Earlier in April 2026, attackers targeted two Indian-flagged crude oil vessels while they crossed the Strait of Hormuz. At that time, New Delhi expressed “deep concern” over the incidents. The government also demanded safe passage for Indian ships operating in the region.

UK agency reports another maritime incident

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) recently reported another suspicious maritime incident near Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates.

According to the advisory, “unauthorised personnel” boarded a vessel anchored around 38 nautical miles northeast of Fujairah. Later, the vessel reportedly moved towards Iranian territorial waters.

Authorities are still investigating the incident.

India closely monitors regional developments

Overall, the latest attack has increased concerns over maritime security in West Asia. Since India depends heavily on these sea routes for oil imports and international trade, the government continues to closely monitor the situation.

At the same time, rising geopolitical tensions in the region have further increased fears about the safety of global shipping routes.
