After days of extreme heat, Delhi and the National Capital Region finally received relief as heavy dust storms, rain, and strong winds swept across several areas on Friday evening and again on Saturday morning. The sudden change in weather brought down temperatures and ended the intense heatwave conditions that had pushed temperatures above 43°C in recent days.
Dark clouds quickly covered the sky across many parts of Delhi-NCR. Soon after, gusty winds and thunderstorms reduced visibility and disrupted normal movement in several areas. At the same time, light to moderate rainfall lashed parts of Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad.
Dust Storm And Rain Bring Relief Across Delhi-NCR
The sudden weather activity provided much-needed relief from the scorching heat. Residents experienced cooler winds after facing continuous hot and dry conditions throughout the week.
Before the rain began, strong dusty winds swept through many areas and lowered visibility on roads. As a result, vehicles moved slowly in several parts of the city. In some localities, strong winds also caused tree branches to fall.
Meanwhile, weather experts explained that western disturbances and moisture movement over northwest India triggered the sudden change. These systems created favourable conditions for thunderstorms and rainfall across Delhi and nearby regions.

IMD Predicts More Rain And Thunderstorms
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi-NCR may continue to witness rain and thunderstorm activity over the next few days. The department also warned of lightning, gusty winds and dust storms in isolated areas.
Officials said wind speeds could reach between 40 and 60 kmph during storm activity. Therefore, authorities advised residents to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid standing near trees or electric poles.
However, the IMD also warned that heatwave conditions could return once the current weather system weakens.
Temperatures Drop After Severe Heatwave
Earlier this week, Delhi recorded one of its hottest spells of the season. Several weather stations reported temperatures above 43°C, making outdoor conditions extremely uncomfortable during the afternoon.
However, the rainfall helped reduce temperatures and temporarily improve air quality across the city. Even so, humidity levels increased in some areas after the showers, leading to humid conditions later in the evening.
Still, many residents welcomed the sudden relief after enduring days of intense heat.
Traffic And Power Supply Affected In Some Areas
At the same time, the stormy weather caused minor disruptions across parts of Delhi-NCR. Several areas reported slow traffic movement, temporary power cuts and waterlogging in low-lying zones after heavy winds and rain.
In addition, commuters faced delays during peak evening hours because of poor visibility and sudden showers. Authorities remained alert to handle emergencies caused by the unstable weather conditions.
Authorities Issue Safety Advisory
Meanwhile, weather officials urged residents to remain cautious during thunderstorm activity. Authorities advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather and secure loose outdoor items that could get damaged in strong winds.
Drivers were also asked to maintain safe distance on roads because dust storms and wet surfaces reduced visibility and made driving conditions risky.
With unstable weather expected to continue over northwest India, Delhi-NCR residents may witness more rain, thunderstorms and dust storms in the coming days.
