IPL 2026: Rajasthan Royals Seal Playoff Berth After 30-Run Win Over Mumbai Indians
Rajasthan Royals defeated Mumbai Indians by 30 runs at Wankhede Stadium to seal their playoff spot, powered by a 205/8 total and a strong bowling performance led by Jofra Archer.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) outclassed Mumbai Indians (MI) by 30 runs in the 69th match of IPL 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium and confirmed their berth in the playoffs.

After being asked to bat first, Yashasvi Jaiswal gave RR a blazing start, but the team lost three wickets in the powerplay. Dhruv Jurel and Dasun Shanaka added 45 runs for the fourth wicket, which turned out to be the highest partnership for Rajasthan Royals, as the side kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

A quick cameo from Jofra Archer and a composed finish by Ravindra Jadeja and Nandre Burger helped RR reach 205/8 in 20 overs. Dhruv Jurel finished as the top scorer for Rajasthan Royals. Shardul Thakur (2/41 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for Mumbai Indians, while Deepak Chahar also picked up two wickets.

While chasing, Jofra Archer (3/17 in 4 overs), Nandre Burger (2/43 in 4 overs), and Brijesh Sharma (2/26 in 4 overs) dismantled Mumbai Indians’ top and middle order. After 5.1 overs, MI were struggling at 38/4. Suryakumar Yadav added 63 runs for the fifth wicket with Will Jacks and later stitched a 48-run stand for the sixth wicket with Hardik Pandya. These partnerships brought some hope, but MI eventually lost three more wickets and fell short by 30 runs. Yash Punja (2/44 in 4 overs) picked up two crucial wickets of Will Jacks and Corbin Bosch, which proved decisive in the end.

With this win, Rajasthan Royals marched into the playoffs and will now face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator on May 27.

RR Struggle Early on a Tough Pitch

RR batted first on a slow afternoon pitch. They lost both explosive openers early and struggled to build momentum. MI used hard lengths and slower balls effectively, making scoring difficult.

RR had Ravindra Jadeja and Shubham Dubey ready as Impact options, but they promoted Archer to No. 7 instead. That decision changed the match.

Archer Turns the Game With the Bat

Archer attacked from the start. He smashed 32 runs off just 15 balls, hitting three sixes. His power hitting shifted the momentum back to RR. His late hitting helped RR cross the 200-run mark. Rajasthan finished strongly with 73 runs in the last five overs.

Dasun Shanaka also played a key role earlier, scoring a quick 29 off 15 balls and keeping the innings alive. Dhruv Jurel added a steady 38 off 26 before getting out.

MI Start Strong But Lose Early Wickets

Mumbai Indians began with intent. Deepak Chahar tested young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi early with a wide delivery plan, but the batter survived an early chance thanks to a brilliant save in the deep.

However, RR struck back quickly. Yashasvi Jaiswal hit three sixes but fell for 27. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also lost his wicket soon after, miscuing a shot off Chahar. By the end of the powerplay, MI were in trouble at 54 for 3 after Riyan Parag was dismissed on the final ball.

Archer Destroys MI Top Order

Archer dominated with the ball as well. He removed Rohit Sharma with a delivery that moved away after pitching. He then bowled Naman Dhir with a sharp leg-cutter. Nandre Burger added pressure by dismissing Ryan Rickelton. Brijesh Sharma then struck again, leaving MI struggling at 38 for 4.

At that stage, RR looked firmly in control of the match.

Suryakumar, Jacks and Pandya Fight Back

Suryakumar Yadav started aggressively and played elegant shots, including a powerful six over cover. He built a 63-run stand with Will Jacks to bring MI back into the game.

After Jacks fell, Hardik Pandya took charge. He attacked immediately, hitting boundaries and sixes to shift momentum again. MI still had hope when Pandya was in full flow.

Archer Returns to Seal the Match

With the match hanging in balance, Archer returned for his final over. He delivered a hard-length ball that bounced awkwardly and dismissed Pandya. That wicket ended MI’s resistance. RR tightened control and finished the game comfortably.

Yash Raj Punja and Nandre Burger supported well in the final overs, and MI collapsed under pressure. Suryakumar later fell after scoring 10 runs post his half-century.

Brief Scorecard

Dhruv Jurel 38(26), Jofra Archer 32(15), Dasun Shanaka 29(15);
Shardul Thakur 2/41(4), Deepak Chahar 2/43(4)

Player of the Match: Jofra Archer

The Wankhede crowd missed the action of both Rohit Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as both were dismissed early. Combined batting efforts from Rajasthan Royals helped them cross the 200-run mark, which proved enough in the end.

Mumbai Indians lost their rhythm early in the chase. Suryakumar Yadav provided some hope along with Will Jacks and Hardik Pandya, but a brilliant bowling spell by Yash Punja at the end sank Mumbai Indians.

Earlier, Jofra Archer struck early blows along with Nandre Burger and Brijesh Sharma, which put Mumbai Indians under pressure in the chase.

Mumbai Indians gained little benefit from the result, except that it gave some hope to KKR and Delhi Capitals in the playoff race. Rajasthan Royals, in the end, marched into the playoffs with a strong all-round team performance. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
