Marco Rubio Visits Agra’s Taj Mahal With Wife Jeanette Rubio
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited the Taj Mahal during his India trip as he continued high-level diplomatic meetings and preparations for the Quad summit in New Delhi.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited the Taj Mahal in Agra on Monday during his India visit. He arrived with his wife Jeanette Rubio and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor after several high-level diplomatic meetings in New Delhi.

The American delegation landed at the Agra Air Force Station at around 9:05 am on a special aircraft. Heavy security surrounded the visit. Soon after arrival, the group travelled to the 17th-century Mughal monument.

Rubio Follows Traditional Taj Mahal Visit

Rubio and his wife followed a tradition often observed by foreign dignitaries visiting the Taj Mahal. They sat on the famous marble bench in front of the central reflection pool and posed for photographs.

Ambassador Sergio Gor also joined them for a group photograph at the monument.

Authorities kept the Taj Mahal open for tourists during the visit. However, Indian and American security agencies imposed strict movement restrictions around the complex.

Rubio also signed the visitors’ book. He thanked officials for the opportunity to visit what he called “one of the true treasures of the world.”

Gor later shared his experience on X. He wrote, “Wonderful to be back at the iconic Taj Mahal with @SecRubio, @jeanettedr4 and Robert Gabriel. A breathtaking symbol of India’s extraordinary heritage and craftsmanship."

Rubio Continues Busy India Schedule

Rubio began his India visit on Saturday after arriving in Kolkata. He visited the Missionaries of Charity before flying to New Delhi to inaugurate a new $20 million US Embassy Support Annex.

On Sunday, Rubio held delegation-level talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. He also met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to discuss regional and strategic issues.

After visiting the Taj Mahal, Rubio travelled to Jaipur for cultural programmes.

Quad Meeting And Trade Talks Ahead

Rubio will return to New Delhi on Tuesday to attend the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. Leaders are expected to discuss Indo-Pacific security, regional cooperation, maritime trade, artificial intelligence, and critical mineral supply chains.

During the weekend, Rubio also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He delivered an invitation from US President Donald Trump asking Modi to visit the White House later this year.

Ambassador Gor said Indian investments in the US economy recently reached a record $20.5 billion. Rubio also said India and the United States are moving closer to a long-term bilateral trade agreement.

Rubio will also join foreign ministers from Australia and Japan at the Quad summit chaired by Jaishankar. The meeting will mainly focus on maritime security and strategic cooperation across the Indo-Pacific region.
