At least 12 people were injured and a suspect remains at large after gunfire broke out near the Old West End Festival in Toledo, Ohio, triggering panic and an ongoing police search.

At least 12 people were injured in a shooting incident near a community festival in Toledo, Ohio, on Saturday. Police said the suspect is still on the run, and a search operation is actively underway, according to The Associated Press. The incident took place close to the Old West End Festival, a popular annual event known for live music, food stalls, and tours of historic homes in the city.

At Least Two Shooters Suspected in Toledo Incident

Toledo Deputy Police Chief Joe Heffernan confirmed that out of the 12 injured people, two are in critical condition. He also said early findings suggest that more than one person was involved in the shooting. According to him, it appeared that two individuals were firing at each other, saying they were “probably shooting at each other.”

Police Launch Manhunt as Investigation Continues

Authorities have launched an active search to locate those responsible for the attack. Police teams are continuing to secure the area and gather evidence. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine expressed concern over the violence. He said, “I am deeply concerned about the situation in Toledo tonight. Summer festivals should be safe spaces for families to spend time together without fear of violence,”

Chaos at Scene as Festival Crowd Runs for Safety

Eyewitness videos circulating online showed people running in panic after hearing gunshots. Emergency responders were also seen assisting those who appeared injured. Kevin Berry, a witness, said he was sitting in a nearby arboretum with friends listening to live music when the shooting began. He said, “Everybody hit the deck,” describing how people immediately dropped to protect themselves. Berry also recalled seeing a gun being thrown to the ground less than 50 feet (15 meters) away from him after he looked up.

Witness Describes Multiple Victims Spread Across Area

Police officers already present at the festival quickly responded to the situation. Berry, who has medical training and served in the US Navy, helped look for injured people in the area. He told reporters that he saw at least five victims with gunshot wounds. “The folks who were hit were spread out around the arboretum area,” he said.
