South Africa crushed Zimbabwe by 7 wickets in the second match of the T20I Tri-Series in Windhoek. After being asked to bat first, Zimbabwe managed to score 144/8 in 20 overs despite making a good start. Brian Bennett was Zimbabwe's top scorer, while Tadiwanashe Marumani played a blazing knock lower down the order that helped Zimbabwe reach a competitive total. Duan Jansen (3/45 in 4 overs) was South Africa's most successful bowler, while Prenelan Subrayen also picked up two wickets.

In reply, Dewald Brevis produced another explosive half-century to help South Africa secure their first victory in the Namibia T20I Tri-Series, comfortably defeating Zimbabwe. Brevis scored 75 runs for the second consecutive innings, helping South Africa chase down Zimbabwe's target with ease. Zimbabwe had set a target of 145, exactly the same total South Africa had managed in their opening match against Namibia, which they lost by 18 runs.

This time, however, South Africa made light work of the chase and reached the target inside 14 overs. Zimbabwe's bowling attack struggled to contain Brevis, while the absence of pacer Richard Ngarava was also felt. Wessly Madhevere and Sikandar Raza combined to bowl four economical overs, conceding 34 runs between them. However, most of Zimbabwe's other bowlers conceded nine or more runs per over.

Graeme Cremer, playing his first match since the T20 World Cup, had a particularly difficult outing. He bowled only two overs but conceded 32 runs. With this victory, South Africa returned to the winning path after losing their opening match against Namibia.

Zimbabwe Lose Momentum After Strong Start

Zimbabwe's biggest problem came with the bat. They started confidently but failed to maintain their momentum. After reaching 76/1 after 10 overs, Zimbabwe slipped to 144/8 by the end of their innings.

They managed only 68 runs in the second half while losing seven wickets. South Africa effectively used a combination of spin and pace to restrict the Zimbabwean batters.

Duan Jansen was the only South African bowler to concede more than 6.75 runs per over. He gave away 45 runs in his four overs but compensated for the expensive spell by taking three wickets, the most by any South African bowler. Zimbabwe's failure to convert their strong start into a bigger total ultimately proved decisive.

Ben Curran Provides Zimbabwe With Explosive Start

Zimbabwe opener Ben Curran took centre stage alongside Brian Bennett at the beginning of the innings. Bennett struck the first boundary of the innings with a scoop against Eathan Bosch. Curran then took the attack to Jansen, smashing 14 runs from three deliveries.

He produced a ramp shot, a powerful hit over midwicket and a straight six over the bowler's head. Curran moved ahead of Bennett and reached 24 from 11 balls, while Bennett was on 20 from 19. However, Curran's aggressive innings ended when he attempted to clear mid-on. Tony de Zorzi produced an excellent leaping catch to send him back to the pavilion.

South Africa's Bowlers Turn the Game Around

Zimbabwe were still in a strong position at 74/1 after nine overs, but their innings quickly lost momentum. They added only 20 runs during the next 6.1 overs while losing four wickets. Off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen played an important role in slowing the scoring rate. Zimbabwe's batters struggled to attack him effectively.

Dion Myers also fell after attempting to hit a Bjorn Fortuin delivery. He picked out Bosch at deep midwicket, while Fortuin conceded only three runs in the 11th over. Bennett tried to accelerate the innings by charging down the pitch against Subrayen but ended up getting himself bowled. South Africa then introduced Eathan Bosch and Kwena Maphaka, who varied their pace effectively and made scoring difficult.

Sikandar Raza attempted to drive Bosch through the covers but was caught by another impressive effort from Jordan Hermann. Subrayen then dismissed Ryan Burl, leaving Zimbabwe struggling at 94/5 in the 16th over.

A sixth-wicket partnership between Wessly Madhevere and Tadiwanashe Marumani added 43 runs from 23 balls and briefly provided Zimbabwe with hope of reaching a competitive total. However, they could manage only 144/8.

Brevis Produces Another Explosive Knock

Brevis once again showed why he is one of South Africa's most dangerous young batters. After scoring 75 in the opening match against Namibia, he repeated the same score against Zimbabwe. He immediately attacked Newman Nyamhuri, hitting him over long-off for six after the bowler had dismissed de Zorzi.

Brevis then smashed three boundaries from Blessing Muzarabani's second over, using his wrists effectively to find gaps. He finished the powerplay on 19 off nine balls.

Brevis then turned his attention to Cremer. He launched the spinner over long-on for a huge six, with the ball travelling out of the stadium and eventually being retrieved from the parking area. When the ball returned, Brevis sent it over Cremer's head for another six. He then hit Zimbabwe captain Raza over midwicket for his fourth six and raced to 40 from only 15 balls.

Brevis reached his half-century with another six off Cremer, taking just 24 balls to reach the landmark. He added another maximum in the same over. His innings eventually ended on 75, but by then South Africa were firmly in control.

De Zorzi Struggles Again

While Brevis dominated the Zimbabwe attack, Tony de Zorzi endured another disappointing outing. De Zorzi has scored only 9 and 15 in his two innings in the series so far. More concerningly, he has scored at less than a run a ball in both matches and has been dismissed while attempting attacking shots.

Against Zimbabwe, there was little pressure on either De Zorzi or South Africa when he attempted to hit a short, wide delivery from Muzarabani.

Instead, he found Madhevere at fine leg and was dismissed cheaply. De Zorzi has played only nine T20Is for South Africa and is still adapting to the format. With Jason Smith ruled out through injury and few other specialist batters available in the squad, De Zorzi is expected to feature in South Africa's remaining matches. The Tri-Series therefore gives him an important opportunity to regain confidence and establish himself in the team's T20 setup.
