US President Donald Trump has warned that Washington is ready to launch another attack on Iran whenever it decides to do so. His remarks came as tensions continue to rise in West Asia following a series of military strikes and retaliatory actions involving the two countries.
Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office, Trump also highlighted the extent of US surveillance over Iran. He claimed that American intelligence agencies are closely monitoring Tehran’s military activities and are aware of its efforts to rebuild damaged defence and missile systems.
Trump alleged that Iran had been developing a rocket system that could potentially be used to place sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz. He said US forces targeted the new equipment during their recent strikes.
“We took out all of the new equipment that they tried to build along the Strait of Hormuz. Some defensive, some offensive,” Trump said while describing the US military action.
Trump claims US is monitoring Iran closely
Trump said Washington has extensive knowledge of Iran’s military preparations. He claimed that US surveillance had detected Tehran’s attempts to rebuild its military capabilities after previous strikes. “We saw that they were building it,” Trump said, referring to Iran’s efforts to restore its military infrastructure.
“We see everything they’re doing. They can't go to the bathroom without us seeing it.”
According to Trump, Iran was attempting to restore both radar installations and missile-related systems. He said the US was aware of these efforts and had acted against some of the equipment.
“They were trying to rebuild their radar systems and a missile system,” Trump told reporters.
Trump says another attack could come anytime
Trump also defended the latest US strikes against Iranian targets. He described Monday night's military operation as a major attack and suggested that Washington could conduct another strike whenever it chooses.
“It was a very heavy attack last night, and we’re prepared to do another one anytime we want,” Trump said. He added that the US operation destroyed more than Iran's radar systems.
Trump's comments came after a sequence of attacks involving Iranian and US forces in the region. The latest escalation has raised concerns about further military action and the potential impact on regional security.
Trump threatens Iran with severe consequences
In an interview with Fox News, Trump issued an even stronger warning to Tehran. He said Iran could face devastating consequences if it carries out additional attacks against American forces. Trump warned that Iran would be “totally wiped out as a country” if it responded with further attacks.
“If they do respond, they’ll be hit much harder," he said. The warning came after Iran attempted to strike US troops stationed in Jordan. The Iranian action followed an earlier US operation that destroyed rocket launchers on Iranian territory.
Trump dismisses chances of a deal with Iran
Trump also expressed little optimism about reaching a new peace agreement with Tehran. When asked whether he still hoped for a deal between the US and Iran, Trump said he believed Washington had already given Iran several opportunities to reach an agreement.
“I gave them a lot of chances,” Trump said. He also questioned the value of any potential agreement with Tehran, saying “an agreement with them isn't worth the paper it's written on.”
US strikes Iranian rocket launchers
The latest escalation followed a US military operation on Sunday. The US Central Command, or CENTCOM, said it struck and destroyed two rocket launchers on Iran's Larak Island.
