India strongly criticised Pakistan during a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) debate on Tuesday. The response came after Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar made remarks at the session. India’s UN Ambassador P Harish accused Pakistan of supporting terrorism and living off International Monetary Fund (IMF) loans.
He said, “On one hand there is India – a mature democracy, a surging economy, a pluralistic and inclusive society. At the other extreme is Pakistan, steeped in fanaticism and terrorism and a serial borrower from the IMF.”

India Urges Global Unity Against Terrorism
Ambassador Harish stressed the need for every country to follow basic global rules while talking about peace and security. He said the most important rule is to show “zero tolerance for terrorism.”
He added, “It ill behoves the member of the Council to offer homilies while indulging in practices that are unacceptable to the international community.” While he didn’t name Pakistan directly, his target was clear.
Pakistan Presides Over Peace Session, Pushes Resolution
Ironically, Pakistan chaired the UNSC session titled “Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and the Peaceful Settlement of Disputes.” Ishaq Dar opened the debate by calling for stronger global cooperation and peaceful solutions to conflicts.
Dar said, “Multilateralism is not merely a diplomatic convenience; it is the need of the hour. The peaceful settlement of disputes is not just a principle—it is the lifeline of global stability.”
Pakistan also sponsored a resolution that urged countries to settle disputes through peaceful means like negotiation, mediation, or legal methods. The UNSC later adopted this resolution.
Pakistan Raises Water Dispute Again
Dar used the platform to bring up a long-standing water-sharing dispute with India. He accused India of halting the water treaty unfairly.
“It is most unfortunate and regrettable that India has chosen to illegally and unilaterally hold this treaty in abeyance on baseless grounds, with the intent of choking water flow to 240 million Pakistanis who depend on it for their livelihood and survival,” Dar claimed.
India Highlights April Terror Attack in Pahalgam
India’s tough stance comes just months after a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22. In that attack, 26 people, including many tourists, died. India blamed Pakistan-based terrorists for the massacre.
India’s reply at the UNSC showed growing global frustration with Pakistan’s use of terrorism as a political tool. While Pakistan talks of peace at global forums, its actions continue to suggest otherwise.
