Actor and television star Sofía Vergara recently shared that she has undergone a second surgery on her knee. On Friday, the Modern Family star, 53, posted two photos on social media — one from her hospital bed and another showing her leg in a thick brace with a bandage. In her caption, she wrote, “It’s done! Round 2,” followed by red heart emojis, a prayer emoji, and the hashtag #knee.

Vergara did not give specific details about the surgery or the medical reason behind it. However, this procedure comes just over a year after she had her first knee operation in April 2024, which she also shared publicly.
Support From Her Former Partner
During her first surgery, Vergara had praised her then-boyfriend, orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman, for his care and support. She joked on Instagram at the time, “If u ever get a [major] knee surgery make sure u get a handsome doctor who will sleep with u that night… ! Luv u,” posting a photo of Saliman in his surgical scrubs.
The two were together for over a year before ending their relationship in January 2025. Despite their breakup, Saliman had played an important role in helping Vergara heal both physically and emotionally during her initial recovery.
Humor After Surgery
Even while recovering, Vergara stayed true to her fun-loving personality. After her second surgery, she posted about a humorous gift she received from America’s Got Talent co-judge Howie Mandel. He gave her a device that looked like an electric pogo stick — a playful nod to her current mobility struggles.
Health Journey and Resilience
Vergara has always been open about her health. In 2022, she revealed that she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 28. What began as a routine medical check-up turned into a life-changing diagnosis. She recalled, “At 28, ‘Cancer’ was not a word I expected to hear. But the doctors found a lump in my throat, and that word became part of my story.”
Despite facing several health challenges, Vergara continues to share her journey with honesty and humor, showing resilience and strength through each stage of recovery.
