Siraj Takes 100th Away Test Wicket, Eyes Top Spot in England Series
Mohammed Siraj reached 100 away Test wickets and is now one wicket away from becoming the top wicket-taker in the 2025 India-England series.

Mohammed Siraj continued to shine with the ball in the fifth Test against England at The Oval. The 31-year-old pacer played a key role in India's bowling effort across both innings.

In the first innings, Siraj bowled 16.2 overs. He gave away 86 runs but took 4 important wickets for the Shubman Gill-led side. Then, on Day 3, he bowled 3.5 overs in England’s second innings. He struck at the very end of the day by removing opener Zak Crawley.

This wicket helped Siraj achieve a big milestone — 100 wickets in away Tests. He reached the landmark in just 27 matches outside India.

Joins Elite List of Indian Pacers

Siraj is now the seventh Indian fast bowler to claim 100 or more wickets in away Tests. The others on the list are:

  • Kapil Dev

  • Javagal Srinath

  • Zaheer Khan

  • Ishant Sharma

  • Mohammed Shami

  • Jasprit Bumrah

However, the overall record for most away wickets by an Indian belongs to Anil Kumble. The legendary spinner picked 269 wickets in 69 away Tests during his 18-year career. Kapil Dev is second on the list with 215 wickets from 66 away Tests.

Consistent Performer Across Countries

Siraj made his Test debut in December 2020 against Australia. Since then, he has delivered consistently in overseas conditions:

  • Australia: 8 Tests, 33 wickets

  • England: 11 Tests, 42 wickets

  • South Africa: 4 Tests, 12 wickets

He has become one of India's most reliable seamers in foreign conditions.

Eyes on Another Record in England

Siraj is now close to surpassing Kapil Dev's record of 43 Test wickets in England. If he manages to take at least three more wickets in England’s second innings, he will move ahead of Kapil and become India’s third-highest wicket-taker in Tests on English soil.

Currently, the highest number of Test wickets in England for India is held jointly by:

  • Jasprit Bumrah – 51 wickets in 12 Tests

  • Ishant Sharma – 51 wickets in 15 Tests

Kapil Dev is just ahead of Siraj with 43 wickets from 13 matches.

Leading Wicket-Taker of the Series?

So far in the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Siraj has played all five Tests and taken 19 wickets. He shares this number with England’s Josh Tongue, who reached the same tally in just three matches.

Now, Siraj needs one more wicket to go past Tongue and become the leading wicket-taker of the series.
