Ukraine has accused Russia of launching a missile strike on a boarding school in the Kursk region. The school, located in Sudzha, was reportedly housing people preparing for evacuation. The Kyiv Post reported the strike destroyed the building.

Zelenskyy Condemns the Attack

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, emphasizing that many of the victims were Russian citizens. He pointed out that Russia still targeted the school, despite civilians being inside. Zelenskyy stated that this attack shows Russia’s disregard for civilian life.

Rescue Operations Underway

Following the missile strike, Ukrainian forces began searching for survivors in the rubble. At least four people were confirmed dead, and 84 others have been rescued. Four of the injured are in serious condition.

Russia Blames Ukraine

In a twist, Russia blamed Ukraine for the strike. Russia’s Ministry of Defense accused Ukrainian forces of committing a war crime by attacking the school. Some Russian military bloggers also suggested that Ukraine was responsible for the strike.

Zelenskyy’s Strong Response

Zelenskyy firmly rejected Russia’s accusations. He said the attack revealed Russia’s brutal tactics. "This is how Russia wages war," he stated, comparing it to the destruction in Chechnya and Syria. He added that Russian bombs have been destroying Ukrainian homes in a similar way.

Ongoing Conflict and Casualties

The missile strike in Sudzha is part of the continuing conflict in the Kursk region. Ukrainian forces have held parts of this region since August. On the same day as the strike, Russia launched a missile and drone barrage on Ukraine. The attack killed 15 people and damaged buildings and energy infrastructure.

Casualties in Kharkiv and Sumy

In Kharkiv, a drone attack killed one person and injured four. Additionally, in Sumy, three police officers were killed while patrolling a village. The violence continues to escalate across Ukraine.
