Delhi Issues Traffic Restrictions Ahead of PM Modi’s Visit
Delhi Traffic Police restricted several routes on Sunday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the capital to inaugurate key highway projects worth nearly ₹11,000 crore.

Delhi Traffic Police imposed restrictions on key routes on Sunday. The curbs were put in place because Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Rohini to inaugurate highway projects. As per the advisory, traffic remained restricted between 6 am and 2 pm on Rohtak Road between Tikri Border and Peeragarhi. Several routes in Rohini also faced closures.

Major Projects Inaugurated

PM Modi launched two big projects during his visit. These include the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Alipur–Dichaon Kalan stretch of Urban Extension Road-II. These projects, built at a cost of nearly ₹11,000 crore, aim to improve road connectivity. They are also expected to cut travel time and reduce traffic jams across Delhi.

Key Roads Affected

Police said UER-II would remain closed on August 17. Restrictions also covered:

  • Rohtak Road from Peeragarhi to Tikri Border, both sides

  • All connected roads to Rohtak Road

  • Bhagwan Mahavir Road

  • Adjoining stretches, including Bawana Road, Kanjhawala Road, Kanjhawala Link Road, and Badsha Dahiya Marg.

Ban on Commercial Vehicles

Delhi Police barred commercial vehicles on the Tikri Border–Peeragarhi stretch. “Commercial vehicles will not be allowed on Rohtak Road from Tikri Border to Peeragarhi and vice versa," the advisory read. Diversion points for heavy vehicles included Tikri Border, Ghevra More, Mundka Red Light, Nangloi Chowk, Bakkarwala More, Jharoda Road under Bahadurgarh Flyover Toll, and Jharoda Nala under Bahadurgarh Flyover to UER-II.

Alternate Routes for Commuters

Police also suggested alternate routes. From Tikri Border to Peeragarhi, commuters should avoid Rohtak Road. Instead, they can take Jharoda–Najafgarh–Nangloi Road. From Peeragarhi to Tikri Border, travellers should bypass Rohtak Road and go via Nangloi–Najafgarh through Jharoda.

Police Advice to Citizens

Authorities advised people to use the Delhi Metro. “In view of the event, commuters should plan their routes in advance and consider alternative roads to avoid inconvenience. People travelling on Rohtak Road from Tikri Border to Peeragarhi and vice versa or from and towards Rohini may consider using the metro on August 17," the advisory said.
