‘Watt a Life’: Smriti Irani Reacts to Taylor Swift’s Fairy-Tale Engagement
Smriti Irani celebrated Taylor Swift’s engagement to Travis Kelce, calling it a fairy-tale moment that proves love is cherished across borders.

Smriti Irani joined the wave of global excitement after Taylor Swift announced her engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce. On Thursday night, the actress-turned-politician shared the pop icon’s dreamy engagement pictures on her Instagram stories and penned a heartfelt note.

She wrote, “The joy at this end of the world probably makes no sense; the euphoria for this age group in this part of the world makes no sense…but then that’s what love does…always a sucker for a nice end to what seems to be a fairy tale…watt a life." Irani highlighted that while the celebration may seem distant for many in India, Swift’s love story shows how joy travels across borders.

Taylor Swift’s Engagement Goes Viral

Taylor Swift stunned fans on August 26 when she revealed her engagement through Instagram. She posted a series of enchanting photos with Kelce and captioned them, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married."

The post quickly broke records. According to Meta, it crossed 1 million reposts in just six hours, setting a new benchmark on the platform. It also drew over 29 million likes, cementing its place as one of the most viral Instagram moments in history.

When Did Travis Kelce Propose?

Kelce’s father, Ed Kelce, disclosed that the proposal took place nearly two weeks before the public announcement. The moment unfolded in a private garden in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Swift wore a striped Ralph Lauren silk dress, while Kelce presented her with a custom diamond engagement ring.

Ed told News 5, “Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks ago, not quite two weeks ago. He was going to put it off till this week…he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event."

Sharing more details, he added, “He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine…’ They got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful. They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great."
