PM Modi Gets Traditional Welcome in Japan with Songs and Dances
PM Narendra Modi received a heartfelt cultural welcome in Japan with folk songs, classical dances, and warm greetings ahead of key bilateral talks.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Japan on Friday to a warm and traditional welcome. Japanese women, dressed in vibrant Rajasthani attire, greeted him with folded hands and cheerful smiles. They said, “Padharo Mhare Des,” which means “Welcome to my land.”

Folk Song and Dance Performances

Adding to the charm of the moment, one of the women sang the soulful folk song “Vaari jaavu re.” The performance drew applause from PM Modi, who looked visibly touched by the gesture. Soon after, another group showcased India’s rich cultural heritage by performing classical dance forms such as Mohiniyattam, Kathak, Bharatnatyam, and Odissi.

The Prime Minister interacted warmly with the performers. He exchanged words of appreciation and acknowledged their passion for Indian traditions.

One of the Japanese artists, who performed Mohiniyattam, expressed her happiness. “It was such a great chance to perform for Prime Minister Modi. I am very happy. I performed Mohiniyattam, a classical dance form from South India. I have more than 25 years of experience. This dance is an individual dance form, but for Prime Minister Modi, we made it a group performance,” she said.

Another Japanese artist who performed Kathak described the experience as a lifetime achievement. According to PTI, she said, “Performing in front of PM Modi is like a gold medal for us.”

Visit for Bilateral Talks

The cultural exchange took place before PM Modi’s participation in crucial bilateral talks in Tokyo. He is on a two-day visit to Japan at the invitation of Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba for the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit.

Before leaving for Japan, Modi underlined the importance of the visit. He said the main focus would be to strengthen the Special Strategic and Global Partnership, which has grown steadily over the past 11 years. He also stressed that the trip would help advance India’s national interests while promoting peace and security in the region and the world.

Modi Praises Indian Community in Japan

During his address, the Prime Minister also praised the Indian diaspora in Japan. He acknowledged their contribution to Japanese society and their commitment to preserving Indian culture abroad.

In a post on X, he wrote, “Deeply touched by the warmth and affection of the Indian community here in Tokyo. Their commitment to preserving our cultural roots while contributing meaningfully to Japanese society is truly commendable.”
