Authorities have identified the man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk. According to reports, the suspect is 22-year-old Tyler Robinson from Utah.
The deadly incident happened on Wednesday at Utah Valley University in Orem. A sniper fired a single shot, killing Kirk as he sat inside the university’s Losee Center.
Father Reportedly Turned in His Son
Law enforcement sources told the New York Post that Robinson’s father tipped off the authorities. This led to Robinson being taken into custody more than 24 hours after the shooting.
The arrest came after a massive manhunt involving local police and federal agencies.
Trump Confirms Arrest in Interview
US President Donald Trump confirmed the arrest during an interview with Fox News. “I think with a high degree of certainty we have him in custody,” Trump said.
The President explained that someone close to the suspect helped authorities. “Somebody close to him turned him, you know, they said, whoa. It’s interesting, where we had very good pictures, but not great, not perfect,” he added.
Trump Calls for Death Penalty
Trump expressed anger over the killing and urged for the death penalty.
“I hope he’s going to be found guilty and I hope he gets the death penalty. What he did — Charlie Kirk was the finest person and he didn’t deserve this," Trump said.
FBI Surveillance Images Released
Before the arrest, the FBI had shared blurry images taken from surveillance cameras. The photos showed a person dressed in a black top, black sunglasses, and a dark baseball cap.
Investigators believe the sniper fired the fatal shot from an elevated position about 200 yards away from Kirk.
No Official Comment Yet
As of now, both the FBI and the US Justice Department have not issued a formal statement about Robinson’s arrest.
However, officials are expected to address the media later in the day during a press briefing.
This arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the high-profile case, which has drawn national attention and strong reactions from political leaders.
