PM Modi’s US Visit Set for February 12-13, Will Meet President Trump

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United States on February 12 and 13. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced the visit on Friday. Modi will meet US President Donald Trump during the visit.

First Visit After Trump’s Re-election

Misri stated, "PM Modi will pay an official working visit to the US on February 12 and 13. This will be the first visit of PM Modi to the US after President Trump’s second presidential term began." Modi will be one of the first world leaders to visit the US following Trump’s inauguration.

White House Invitation

The announcement follows a statement from a White House official. They confirmed that President Trump invited Modi to meet him next week. Trump had said, "I had a long talk with him this morning, and he’s going to be coming to the White House in the next month, probably in February.”

Phone Call Between Modi and Trump

On January 27, PM Modi spoke with President Trump over the phone. They discussed global peace, security, and ways to enhance cooperation in technology, trade, and defense. Modi said, “We are committed to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership. We will work together for the welfare of our people and towards global peace, prosperity, and security."

Trade Relations Between India and the US

The United States is India’s largest trading partner. In 2023/24, the trade between the two countries exceeded $118 billion. India has a trade surplus of $32 billion with the US. India wants to strengthen trade ties and ease the process for its citizens to get skilled worker visas.
