Indian Super League 2024-25: Mumbai City FC Dominates NorthEast United 2-0 to Move Up to Fourth Spot
Mumbai City FC defeated NorthEast United 2-0, ending their eight-match winless streak and climbing to fourth place in the ISL standings.
Mumbai City FC triumphed 2-0 over NorthEast United FC in the Indian Super League 2024-25. The match took place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong. As a result, Mumbai moved up to fourth place with 31 points, while NorthEast's eight-match winless run came to an end.

Early Chances for NorthEast United

NorthEast United made the first attempt on goal. In the 8th minute, Macarton Nickson sent a cross to Alaaeddine Ajaraie, but his header went over the bar. Shortly after, in the 13th minute, Ajaraie had another opportunity, but his shot from inside the box missed to the left.

NorthEast's Continued Pressure

Despite the missed chances, NorthEast continued to push forward. In the 26th minute, after stopping a Mumbai attack, they quickly launched a counter. Mohammed Ali Bemammer set up Ajaraie, who narrowly missed his shot. Then, just two minutes later, Ajaraie set up Nestor Albiach with a through ball. Unfortunately, Albiach’s shot was too weak and was saved easily by Mumbai's goalkeeper.

However, Mumbai responded with a moment of brilliance in the 41st minute. Brandon Fernandes crossed from the right to Bipin Singh, who scored with a powerful header into the top right corner, giving Mumbai the lead.

Chhangte maintained his pressure after the break. In the 47th minute, he passed the ball to Hmingthanmawia Ralte, but Ralte’s shot went straight to the goalkeeper. Two minutes later, Nickson had a chance after receiving a corner, but his shot went wide. Additionally, Jithin MS missed a chance following a header from Nickson.

Mumbai’s Counter Seals the Win

Although NorthEast United had 17 shots compared to Mumbai's five, Mumbai remained composed. In added time, Mumbai launched a quick counter-attack. Tiri delivered a perfect pass to Chhangte, who finished calmly into the bottom right corner, sealing the victory.

Bipin Singh stood out in the match, completing 23 out of 28 passes, making one clearance, and scoring the opening goal.
