Netflix’s Adolescence star Stephen Graham won the prestigious Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series award at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards. He closed his acceptance speech with a heartfelt Namaste, winning the audience’s admiration.
Graham Delivers an Emotional Speech
Graham gave a deeply personal speech, reflecting on his journey. “This kind of thing doesn’t normally happen to a kid like me,” he said. “I’m just a mixed-race kid from a block of flats in a place called Kirkby. So for me to be here today in front of my peers and be acknowledged by you is the utmost humbling thing I could ever imagine in my life. And it shows you that any dream is possible.”
He expressed gratitude to his friends and family for supporting him throughout his career. “There’s too many people to thank,” he said, “but I am gonna thank my friends and family — without you none of this is possible, and thank you for helping me, something I can’t do on my own.”
Tribute to His Father and Wife
The actor also shared a touching message for his late father, who first introduced him to cinema. He said, “Thank you to my dad for taking me to the video shop when I was a kid and starting my education in film.”
Graham then dedicated his award to his wife, actress Hannah Walters. “You are my rock, you are my world, you are my soulmate,” he said. “And you know and I know, without you I would be dead. From the bottom of my heart, I love you with everything I have.”
He also thanked his two children, calling them his biggest inspiration.
