Trump Sets Deadline for Hamas to Respond to Gaza Peace Plan
Trump has given Hamas three to four days to accept or reject his 20-point peace roadmap for Gaza.

US President Donald Trump announced that Hamas has three to four days to reply to his new 20-point peace proposal. He said the plan could bring “an immediate end” to the Gaza war if both Israel and Hamas accept it. The statement came just a day after Trump revealed the roadmap in Washington following his talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israel’s Position on the Proposal

Prime Minister Netanyahu welcomed the framework but issued a clear warning. He said Israel would “finish the job” militarily if Hamas rejects the deal or violates its terms. Arab mediators, including Egypt and Qatar, are now sharing the details of the proposal with Hamas negotiators. So far, Hamas has not given an official response.

What the Roadmap Includes

The peace plan calls for an immediate halt to hostilities once both sides agree. Israeli forces would withdraw to a defined line inside Gaza, while all air and ground operations would stop. Within 72 hours, Hamas would have to release all hostages, both alive and deceased, in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. This includes women, children, and detainees held since October 7, 2023.

Future Governance of Gaza

The proposal removes Hamas from any role in Gaza’s administration. Fighters who lay down arms would receive conditional amnesty, while others would be allowed safe passage into exile. The US, Israel, and regional guarantors would oversee disarmament, with independent monitors ensuring tunnels, rocket sites, and weapons facilities are dismantled.

For governance, Gaza would be managed by a technocratic Palestinian committee handling day-to-day affairs. Oversight would come from an international “Board of Peace,” chaired by Donald Trump. Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair is named as a board member, tasked with helping direct reconstruction and aid.

Humanitarian Aid and Economic Vision

The plan calls for the immediate delivery of food, fuel, medicine, and rebuilding materials through neutral agencies like the UN and Red Crescent. In the longer term, Trump linked aid to his proposed “economic development initiative,” which seeks to transform Gaza into a center for investment and job creation.
