BJP Defeats AAP in Delhi, Eyes on CM Position as Parvesh Verma Leads the Race
BJP secures a historic win in the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections, with key figures emerging as potential Chief Minister candidates.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a historic victory in the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025. With 39 out of the 70 seats, the BJP will form the government after 27 years. On the other hand, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won only 17 seats, while Congress failed to win any. Delhi BJP shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), thanking the people of Delhi.

Key Election Results

One of the biggest upsets came when former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia conceded defeat to BJP's Tarvinder Singh Marwah in Jangpura. Meanwhile, BJP's Parvesh Verma triumphed over AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal in the high-profile New Delhi seat. Furthermore, Congress once again failed to make an impact, drawing a blank for the third consecutive assembly election.

BJP's Strong Performances

In addition to these victories, BJP also claimed significant wins across other constituencies. Rekha Gupta won in Shalimar Bagh, defeating her AAP rival by a large margin. Manjinder Singh Sirsa emerged victorious from Rajouri Garden, and Tilak Ram Gupta claimed victory in Tri Nagar. Moreover, BJP’s candidates secured wins in Rajinder Nagar and Sangam Vihar.

AAP's Wins and Losses

Despite some successes, such as Virender Singh Kadian's victory in Delhi Cantt and Sahi Ram’s triumph in Tughlakabad, AAP faced numerous defeats in other key constituencies, severely impacting their overall performance.

Top BJP CM Contenders

Although the BJP did not officially announce its CM candidate before the election, several key figures are now emerging as strong contenders.
  1. Parvesh Verma: Having defeated Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi, Verma comes from a prominent political family. He has previously served as both an MP and an MLA, making him a serious contender for the CM position.
  2. Vijender Gupta: Gupta, who won in Rohini, has significant political experience as the opposition leader in the Delhi Assembly. His resilience and leadership make him a top contender.
  3. Virendra Sachdeva: The current Delhi BJP president, Sachdeva played a major role in the party's success. Under his leadership, the BJP managed to secure a majority, and his role will likely influence the CM decision.
  4. Harish Khurana: As the son of former Delhi CM Madan Lal Khurana, Khurana brings a strong political background. He won the Moti Nagar seat and is being considered as a potential CM candidate due to his experience in the party.
  5. Bansuri Swaraj: Bansuri Swaraj, the daughter of the late Sushma Swaraj, also emerged as a contender. Having won the New Delhi seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, she is viewed as a rising star within the BJP.

Looking Ahead

As the dust settles from the BJP’s historic victory, all eyes are now on the decision of who will lead the capital. With several strong candidates in the running, the choice of Delhi’s next Chief Minister is sure to be a subject of keen interest.
