Two Australian Cricketers Molested in Indore, BCCI Calls Incident Unfortunate
The BCCI condemned the molestation of two Australian women cricketers in Indore, calling the incident “unfortunate” and praising the prompt action of the Madhya Pradesh police.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday strongly condemned the molestation of two Australian women cricketers during the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 in Indore. The board called the incident “unfortunate” and said it brings disrepute to the sport.

BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla said, “The entire incident is very unfortunate, and we condemn it. We will take all the required precautions. The Police have nabbed the accused.”

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia echoed the remarks, praising the Madhya Pradesh Police for their swift action. “It is a very unfortunate incident. This type of incident brings disrepute. We appreciate the State Police for their prompt action to nab the culprit. Let the law take its course to punish the culprit,” he said.

Details of the Incident

The incident occurred on Thursday morning on Khajrana Road in Indore. Two Australian women cricketers had stepped out of their hotel to visit a nearby café.

According to Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi, a man on a motorcycle began following them. He allegedly molested one of the players before fleeing the scene.

The players immediately informed their team security officer, Danny Simmons, who contacted local security liaison officers and arranged a safe vehicle for the players.

Police Take Swift Action

Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra met the players, recorded their statements, and started legal proceedings. An FIR was registered at MIG Police Station under Sections 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

A bystander reportedly noted the motorcycle’s registration number. This led to the quick identification and arrest of the accused, Akil Khan, on Friday. Police said Khan sustained injuries while trying to escape arrest.

“Khan has prior criminal cases registered against him, and an investigation is ongoing,” Sub-Inspector Raghuvanshi added.

BCCI Assures Safety

The BCCI assured that it will take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of players for the remainder of the World Cup.
