Defending champions FC Goa began their campaign in style, defeating Jamshedpur FC 2-0 in their AIFF Super Cup 2025-26 opener on Sunday to start their title defence with a convincing win. Rain continued to pour in Goa as the AIFF Super Cup action moved to the PJN Stadium in Fatorda.
The wet pitch made conditions tricky, and both teams initially struggled to find rhythm. However, Manolo Marquez’s side settled faster and controlled the early stages. Spanish midfielder Borja Herrera came close to scoring when his curling corner kick hit the crossbar, showing once again how dangerous his in-swinging set pieces can be.
Goa Take Lead Before Half-Time
Jamshedpur FC soon created a chance of their own. Their new signing Raphael Messi Bouli found space and fired a shot, but FC Goa goalkeeper Hrithik Tiwari reacted quickly to push it away. That save denied the Men of Steel an early breakthrough and kept Goa on top.
As the half progressed, Jamshedpur began to look more confident. But just before the interval, Goa struck. Udanta Singh sent in a cross that deflected off Ayush Chhetri and found Javier Siverio. The Spanish striker made no mistake, heading the ball past the goalkeeper to give Goa a 1-0 lead against his former club at half-time.
Weather Interrupts Play
The second half began with a brief delay as heavy rain forced a stoppage. When the match resumed, FC Goa quickly regained control of possession and tempo. In the 56th minute, Borja Herrera set up Aakash Sangwan after a clever move, but Sangwan’s shot narrowly missed the target.
Drazic Doubles the Lead
FC Goa extended their advantage in the 66th minute. David Timor’s header bounced off the post, and Serbian forward Dejan Drazic reacted sharply to smash the rebound into the net, making it 2-0 for the home side.
Moments later, Drazic had another chance, but his shot was deflected wide for a corner. Goa continued to attack relentlessly. Boris Singh also came close, but his effort flew off target.
Gaurs Sit Top of Group B
The defending champions comfortably saw out the match to secure all three points. With this win, FC Goa moved to the top of Group B, while NorthEast United FC and Inter Kashi FC remain tied on one point each after their 2-2 draw earlier in the day.
Up next, FC Goa will face Inter Kashi on Wednesday, while Jamshedpur FC will take on NorthEast United FC in the group’s opening fixture the same day.
